Having worked with a wide range of writers, from novice to experienced, I am skilled at repairing raw copy, improving good copy and polishing well-written copy. I can edit for spelling and grammar, for continuity and meaning, and for errors and potential libel.

As editor of the Coast Press, the most widely circulated community newspaper in Delaware's prime oceanfront resort, and managing editor of the Beachcomber, the resort's most prominent tourist publication, I edited, rewrote and polished large amounts of copy for five years. Award-winning projects that I initiated, supervised, edited and partly rewrote include a series on water quality in Delaware's Inland bays, a series on the local impact of the Year 2000 computer bug and a series on assisted living. I also edited copy for numerous special projects published by Thomson Newspapers, owner of the above publications. These special publications covered such topics as the rapid growth of the resort area, senior citizen lifestyles, the opening of a new medical facility, and ecotourism.
I also assigned, edited and partly rewrote some of  the copy for two large publications about the Delmarva Peninsula, which I developed for Thomson. For selected samples from these special publications, click here.

 

 

I worked as an editor/rewriter for the Delaware State Planning Office, helping pull together a major policy statement that will guide development throughout the state. This work included editing the work of several policy writers, rewriting large portions, proposing changes to improve content, streamlining the flow, creating shorter versions of larger documents, and other related work. I served as editor/rewriter for a joint project of the University of Delaware and the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control that developed "issue books" about water pollution. I edited (and indexed and paginated) an 80-page handbook for educational administrators, which explains how to navigate the complex problems that come with dismissal of employees.
