Learn
tailwheel flying!
The Airplane –
is a 1947 USAF L-16A (some served in Korea), restored to original
colors.
The Instructor
– is a 1934 ex-USAF pilot (served in Vietnam), not restored
at all. He has 40+ years of experience (ATP, CFI, A&P) and
17,000 hours in 90+ makes and models of aircraft; 40+ are tailwheel.
The Course –
is old fashioned and we work hard (you, me, and the airplane)
at getting you the skills needed to operate tailwheel airplanes
well. Coordination is obviously a big part of tailwheel flying,
but good airplane control comes from being organized and having
good priorities, so this is also part of the course. You will
learn how to handle crosswinds. Back seat time and spins are
included, if you want.
Getting Started
– is easy. Scheduling is not usually a problem since I am
semi-retired and only do tailwheel training and fabric work
– and I tell the fabric people that flying comes first. We train
at various airports, based on where you are from. Or we can
bring the course to your location.
Food for Thought
– Folks think that tailwheel is harder, but the reality
is that nosewheel is easier. Past students say they apply a
lot of what they learn in this course to their flying in nosewheel
aircraft. There are fewer and fewer tailwheel airplanes and
fewer and fewer tailwheel instructors all the time. If you want
this skill, NOW is the time to do something about it.
NEW
BENEFIT! – Pilots who successfully complete
my tailwheel transition program are eligible to receive a
