Our bodies are under nearly constant assault by compounds
called free radicals, damaged cells having one electron missing in its
outer shell: they come from within our bodies due to bio-chemical reactions
(digestive processes); they come from the environment, from chemical additives
and preservatives in the prepared foods we eat, pesticides, herbicides,
automobile exhaust, xrays, even sunlight (sunburn is a form of free radical
damage) and chlorinated water; and they come from free radical cascades,
a phenomenon where one free radical creates thousands of others in a chain
reaction. This chain reaction can damage cell structure so severely
that immunity is impaired and degenerative diseases result, including but
not limited to cardio-vascular disease, cancer, diabetes and premature
aging evidenced by asthma, fatigue, arthritis, rheumatism, etc.
Solution:
Our bodies use anti-oxidents to combat free radicals.
These anti-oxidents occur naturally in the form of Vitamins A, C and E,
and bioflavinoids. Proanthocyanidins are a very powerful class of bioflavinoids,
50 times more powerful than Vitamin E and 20 times more powerful than Vitamin
C. OPCs are derived from extracts of pine bark and grape seeds.
Delivery Systems:
Oligomeric Proanthocyanidins are availble in many formats
and formulas but the key to efficient absorption into the bloodstream,
so that they can be utilized by our bodies, lies in our digestive system.
Pills or capsules are taken orally and must be digested (liquified) in
the stomach so that they can be absorbed by the small intestine.
This method achieves approximately 45-60% effectivity in 40-75 minutes.
If these pills or capsules can be pre-liquified or taken in an isotonic
state, absorption will be speeded up and optimized. Isotonic delivery
systems achieve 90-95% effectivity within 15-20 minutes.
