Saltwater Fishing and Boating

I began fishing seriously
in the lower Chesapeake Bay in 1970. By 1979 I had gotten hooked on fishing in
Cape Charles, Virginia and have been going there every year since. I don't
think there is a better place to fish for almost every species of fish from
bottom fishing for spot, flounder, croaker, sea trout and Spanish mackerel to
offshore fishing for tuna, marlin, sharks and dolphin. With the Atlantic Ocean
and Chesapeake bay separated by only ten miles of the Delmarva Peninsula it
allows you to fish from either location depending on the weather or sea
conditions or your preference.I also fish from Delaware Bay which I s a
forty-five minute drive from my house. There is excellent fishing to be had
there. My favorite fish there are the Flounder and the Tautog.
In 1985 I decided to get really serious about fishing and sold my
old boat and hit the boat shows in the Washington/Baltimore/Annapolis area. At
the boat show held in Baltimore that year I found the boat of my dreams, a 20'
Aquasport CCP center console powered by a 150 hp Mercury. I had never seen a
boat come so completely equipped for the fishing fanatic, which I guess is the
market they were targeting. I bought it along with a Load Rite trailer and have
been happily traveling up and down the highway ever since. It is now equipped
with a Lowrance GPS/fishfinder, King LORAN, ICOM M56 VHF radio, and a huge built-in
tackle storage box that allows me to switch out plastic lure storage boxes
depending on what I intend to fish for. At 17 years old she still looks good
and has been rewired and repowered with a new Mariner Optimax direct fuel
injected Offshore 150. I added Bennett trim tabs the year after I bought it
because the full deep V hull leaned badly when the boat was untrimmed with too
much weight to one side. The tabs allow me to right the boat easily with the
push of a button and keep everyone in the boat where they belong. If you are fishing in the Cape
Charles or Delaware Bay area, give "BULLWINKLE" a shout on the VHF.
Hey! I'm a big fan!
