Horner Motorsports was formed in 1983 by Charles Horner and his sons, Steve, Rich and Kevin Horner. The idea for forming the team was suggested by Charles Horner. At the time, all of his sons were racing on their own. Charles Horner suggested forming one team and calling it HORNER Motorsports. When Charlie Horner and his sons formed the team, they started to build the current race truck called the "Pro Pup".
The truck is a 1972 Datsun short bed pickup truck. The truck has a full tube chassis underneath it which was constructed at S & W Race Cars in Spring City, PA . A Chevrolet 406 ci small block provides the power. A Bad Habit powerglide automatic transmission transfer power to the rear end. A Chevrolet 12 bolt rear end transfer the power to the Goodyear slicks at the final part of the drive train.
The paint scheme on the truck consists of a combination of PPG paint colors of Dodge Truck White, Lemon Ice Yellow, Magenta, and Maui Blue. Keith Mayers applied the color scheme, while Tim White did the lettering on the truck.
The Horners installed all of the body work to the chassis along with the interior aluminum work. The lexan windows, electrical wiring and devices, and the fuel system plumbling was done by the Horners.
The best elapsed time for the truck is a 9.24 / 144.90 MPH.
