Attitudes
~~~~~~~
Just like everyone else, the Ogier have their own sets of values and attitudes toward those within the world. The Ogier place their values on different things, some of which are vastly different from human values.
Ogier have always held themselves apart from humans because they consider them foolhardy and hasty, rushing into decisions at a momentÕs notice while an Ogier takes days, if not weeks, to come to a major decision upon some matter. Ogier are also uncomfortable around humans because of their mortality. Humans live shorter lives than Ogier, and the Ogier consider it rude to remind humans of their own mortality.
Ogier view the world as one large historical finding waiting to be discovered. They feel that any story told needs to contain nearly three hundred years worth of background information in order to be told properly. Ogier are fond of collecting information and storing them in vast libraries within the stedding, later to be told through oral histories. Unfortunately, since the Exile and the re-discover of the stedding, Ogier have tended to be reclusive in nature. Most of the knowledge that they contain is outdated and perhaps considered useless to the humans of today; however their vast knowledge of the history of the world might one day prove to be invaluable.
Male Ogier have no say in who they get to marry. When a young Ogier female sees a male Ogier that they have an interest in marrying, mothers get together and ÔarrangeÕ the marriage. Often times, a young male Ogier, just returning from a trip, will find himself coming home to a waiting wife. He is obligated to perform the duties of a husband once such a marriage is arranged.
Respect
~~~~~~~
Respect is something the Ogier value very highly. From the smallest child to the Eldest Ogier, respect is maintained throughout the stedding. The highest form of respect is shown to the Elders and the Eldest, through bows and curtseys. Children are taught to obey their parents, while at the same time husbands are taught to obey their wives. Often times, females have been known to be placed in high positions of power, showing matriarchal tendencies within the Ogier government. Male Ogier are quite often expected to listen to the opinions and views of females within the society, and are frowned upon should they ever go against the word of their wives. Those who visit the stedding are expected to treat the Ogier with respect, otherwise they may find themselves with an Ogier watchman escorting them to the borders of the stedding.
