EVENT: Farida comes to Marith with a piece of paper. This paper seems to contain some dangers information.
DATE: January 29, 1999
LOGGER: Marith
Small Copse: Forest, Stedding Maotai
The first thing noticed when entering the copse is the oddly placed well sitting right in the middle. The next odd thing that might be discovered are the tiny windows placed within several of the mounds, looking down in what seems to be some living area. Great Trees, beech, apple and many others, appear to surround the area, offering protection against the dangers of the forest.
Smells of baking bread, vegetables and other delicious foods appear to perfume the air, coming from the grassy hills, as Ogier prepare their midday meal. High above the sky the sun floats over the copse, it's rays beaming down brightly. Everything seems at peace and restful as spring arrives, bringing with it a sense of happiness and rebirth. Mounds of flowers and grasses appear on top of the small hills covering them with a colorful myriad of perfumed wildflowers. A well, worn path leads toward the south, heading in the direction of what seems to be a forest clearing.

Rasad
Rasad is sitting in the curve of a branch, feet dangling down as he plays his flute watching the various happening of the copse from his perch.
Marith walks out of the woods with a group of Ogier, speaking in low tones about various matters of 'state' so to speak. Marith's ears are twitching violently, as if not agreeing with the current topic of conversation.
Farida is waiting for Marith obviously, completely ignoring the others and she definitely does not look like she is feeling at ease in the groove. When her eyes fall on Marith she calmly makes her way over to her, better to show the Ogier lazyness some respect.
The strains of the flute trail off, as Rasad watches Farida approach Marith. Eyes following the scene, as he quietly observes.
Darius wanders over to settle against a tree, alone, and pulls out a smooth piece of round wood. He holds it loosely in one hand, rubbing the front.
Farida comes to an halt some distance from the group and she slants her head, waiting patiently for the Ogier to have finished business with the Eldest. Again the Tuatha'an can notice that when she is on a place with a person who has authority and knowledge about it she is filled with respect and not going to do anything which could be interpretated as rude.
"Absolutely -not-." The Eldest speaks firmly on some matter. One of the other Ogier points out to her that a visitor is approaching. She stops her converation and turns her full attention on Farida, however the Eldest is no less upset than she was before.
"Your name rings my ears as your presence is like a firm breeze rolling through the trees." Farida's hesistant voice stotters more than once at this made up greeting but above the veil covering the majority of her face her eyes are looking unblinkingly at Marith. "Eldest, I was wondering wether you would be willing to do me a favour."
A slightly vexxed look passes Marith's features as yet another person marrs the saying. She quickly smoothes it over however, lest she be viewed less than calm. Marith nods her head, then murmurs, "Your name -sings- in my hears, Mistress Farida." She gently corrects, her words a soft rumble to those with Ogier ears - to humans, an attempt at leveling her voice to their sound level.
Marith pauses a moment as she considers the woman, just realizing she almost missed the question in her vexation, "That would depend on the favor that you ask, Mistress. I would be a fool if I said yes before I knew what it was you wanted."
Farida winces and nods, eyes now looking down before she corrects herself, "Your name sings in my hears Eldest Marith, I apologise." She shakes her head slightly and then nods, the exact opposite, with a faint laugh, "Very wise Eldest, I would like you or some one else translate a letter which recently came into my possession, it is written in the Ogier language which I do not know."
Marith lifts a brow slightly at Farida's words, her ears twitching back and forth. A curious expression lines her eyes, "Indeed? And how do you know if is of our language and not just a piece of paper with pictures?" Marith questions the young woman's words.
"Because I have seen papers with your language before, usually maps" a huge blush covers Farida's cheeks which even the veil can't hide. But she has noticed the curiosity but instead of taking advantage of it she merely adds, "There is.. another thing about this though Eldest."
Darius glances up at Farida and Marith, listening carefully. Again, the mysterious letter.
"I would see this piece of paper," Eldest Marith murmurs, nodding her head to Darius as she notices his arrival finally. She holds out her hand expectantly to the atha'an miera woman, eyes expectant. A questioning gaze enters them as the woman adds more to the pile, "And what would this 'other' thing be, Mistress?"
"Well" Farida's hands are folded in and out slowly but prove her to be rather nervous. "When I got this letter in my possession there were people after me who wished to... harm me" her voice lowers to a whisper which hopefully only the Ogier woman can hear. "Translation it might help me understand those people's causes better, but while I am willing to take the risk of going after them I do not wish to bring harm to you or any other Ogier who translates it. No that it's a great or very possible risk" she quickly adds.
Marith continues to hold out her hand expectantly, "I will decide whether or not the risk was worth it only after I see this piece of paper and see if it is indeed Ogier Script first."
Farida nods slowly and then slowly lets her hands dive into her robe, it's quite easuy to have such a wide bodice with many folds, easy to get. Quicker she grabs the roll and then hands it to the Ogier, quickly to make srue she won't change her mind.
Marith takes the rolled up parchment from Farida, carefully unrolling it. Her eyes even more carefully scan over the information presented there.
NOTE: Farida paged that it was an old letter in Ogier Script where a ter'angreal was described, along with the history and what it can do. The letter stated that it was an object that could only be used by male channelers, designed to call up Storms - in other words something that could be used for destruction. It also describes that it's tainted like the Ways which were created from Saidin. Female channelers feel uneasy when within it's presence.
Farida lays her arms over eachother beneath her breasts and she tightens them more the longer the time passes, her eyes are on the woman who reads and she waits in anticipation.
Rasad is on the edge of seat, well the edge of his branch rather, watching the unfoling drama avidly, his overcome with curiousty about the letter.
An outward sign if irritation flares, as Marith's ears start to twitch back and forth furiously. This is the excited, frantic sort rather than the annoyed sort. She glances up at Farida, eyes wide, "Where is the object that went with this parchment?" Her words are nervous and demanding, urgent more like.
Darius blinks at the aggitation of Marith, and leans foreward, more interested.
"/The/ object?" Judging from the fair amount or surprise in Farida's voice she expected it to go about more objects but then she blushes and at once lowers her voice, very aware of the fact that people are listening and she looks over her shoulder rather nervously but she then quickly answers. "The ones who were behind me they... took it."
That answer does not seem to satisfy Marith at all, "Yes, the object. There is only one mentioned here." Marith turns the parchment over, just in case she missed something. Seeing that she did not Marith turns expectant and demanding eyes one more on Farida, "In the hands of the -wrong- person that thing can be quite dangerous."
Darius leans foreward, definetly interested now. His grey eyes focus on the scene, and someone near him could see his fingers twitching for paper and pen.
Farida cringes in herself, bending forward and downwards much like a scared puppy who is being berated by the leader of the wolfpack. "I.... I will take it back if possible. But I could not stop them... no I couldn't."
Farida shakes her head vehemently as if the memories of that painfull event are being displayed in front of her eyes again.
The Eldest's voice makes an attempt at being soothing - though not very well for a woman who's voice rumbles to a human despite her best efforts, "No... no... you could not have known." Marith shakes her head from side to side, "Light, lets just hope they do not know either." She pauses a moment in her thoughts, reaching out absently with a hand to comfort Farida as she would her own daughter, Clara. "By the Trees and stillness let them not figure it out. In the hands of a woman, the object is harmless, but should they find a man that knows how to channel.." She shakes her head, letting her words trail off as if to indicate what type of object she's talking about; a ter'angreal, one more specifically keyed to a male channeler.
Darius blinks, and files that information away. "A man that could channell..."
Marith's eyes go to Darius as he speaks, then comments, "During the time of the Breaking, and just before it, the Stedding housed many a male channelers because they cannot channel here. If they could not channel, then the madness and rotting disease that came with teh taint was stopped. Unfortunately, they could not live here forever. Some, I remember my grand mother telling me, thought they would die from the madness of not being able to channel before the madness of the taint, for they were unable to even sense the Power, much less touch it."
This touch actually seems to strengthen Farida and she straightens her back again, looking up at the woman and she simply stares in disbelieve, "It... is for men?" she shakes her head in disbelieve and then only murmers
Farida whispers "I could feel it, I could feel it, it made me feel sick."
Marith turns her attention back to Farida, "If what this parchment says, it is." The Eldest nods her head, eyes saddened, though her tufted ears not twitching any less aggitatedly than before, "And one that can cause some serious havoc on the weather system..." This news does not seem to make Marith any more happy than she was before, in fact she seems more wilted, "We can not afford to have it get into the wrong hands..." She worries, aloud, looking toward a group of Elders clumped together. No doubt, there'll be a stump meeting called about this sometime soon.
Darius nods quietly to himself, having heard of that debate from long time ago. Standing, he brushes his clothing off, waiting for the Eldest and Farida to finish.
You hear a thump, as Rasad's feet hit the ground as he jumps down from his perch in the tree. He makes his way toward Farida dn Marith, and says. "Though the wagon's can do little to retrieve the item, we might help in its finding. The world is our home and if you can get a wagon there we have been there. Perhaps I could pass around a description of these men and this object, discretely."
Marith turns her attention to Rasad. She reads over what the object looks like in the letter, then looks to Farida for the rest of the information, unable to supply that.
Farida now stops her idiotic behaviour and takes in a deep breath and nods, looking at Marith and then at the others, notacibly at Darius who is lectured like this. Now she speaks up, "I have reasons to believe that those who were behind it knew what it could mean, they have killed too many people for it." Her eyes are lowered down to watch the ground, "too many people already, no need for this to be spread throughout the lands, I doubt it will be find there." Now she lifts up her face, her last words spoken aloud so others can hear she cannot describe this object further, simply because she does not wish this to be. "I thank you for your help Mahdi, but I am afraid you will only bring attention to yourself and you will not find it."
Farida's voice is so sad, so lonely.
Rasad reaches out a hand to place it on Farida's shoulder, giving it a warm friendly squeeze. "If you don't think it to be found there? Where then?" He looks thoughtful, and his grin widens slightly. "I am a Tinker through and through, and attention is something I don't mind at all. What happens happens, that is the Way, but you are a friend, and it is not in me or my people to just let you drift in the wind, let us anchor you."
Marith's tufted ears continue to twitch. "Mistress Farida.... on the account that perhaps these people do not know what this object can do, would you be adverse to the Ogier holding onto this piece of parchment to make certain it stays safe and out of harms way?"
Farida's smile is rather shaky and her eyes are filled with tears when she looks directly up into Rasad's face but she nods bravely, "I must thank you for your kindness Mahdi, if I would have to stay on the land all my life I would gladly travel with you and your people." It's now her hand who moves up and she places it upon his and she gently lifts it away from her shoulder, "But I cannot ask you to do something like that." Yet she does not release her grip, merely turns her head to face Marith and one can see doubt written on her face. "While I wouldn't have troubles with the original parchment staying in the Stedding I would rather have a translation of it in the common language to show as proof to several people if needed be."
Rasad frowns, that sounds awfully dangerous, and he does give Farida'a hand a gentle squeeze, as he watches the Eldest for reaction.
The Eldests ears twitch back and forth at this request, and the Eldest appears to frown a bit, "I think that would be more dangerous, Mistress, than our keeping the original parchment. I do not think the other Elders would agree to such a thing either. Telling someone how to use a dangerous object is just as bad as giving them a dangerous object to figure out on their own, if not worse."
Darius stands patiently off to the side, filling all of this away for later speaking.
Farida slants her head, "If I would tell you exactly how many people were killed to retrieve this information, there is a fairly large change that you would share my opinion that they already know where and how to use it." A placid tone accompanies her words but Rasad can feel how she nearly crushes his hand with her touch. "It seems I am to travel back to stop them, but to do that I need evidence."
Farida tries to hide the shivers in her voice but she doesn't really succeed in that.
Darius clears his throat. "Erm... Mistress Farida..."
Rasad frowns slightly and asks with a good degree of worry in his voice. "And how are you, just a snip of a girl, going to go stop these killers? With words and papers/"
Marith hands the original parchment back to Farida, shaking her head from side to side, "Then I can not help you. What you propose is not only dangerous, but a decision made out of haste. I will not have my Ogier transcribe something so -others- who are possibly equally dangerous and not know how this object works can steal it away and -discover- it's exact uses." Sadness seems to ring with Marith's eyes, "And further, that sort of decision would require a full meeting of the Stump."
Darius' words are drawing Farida's attention when Rasad's insult makes her look at him, and brown eyes flicker up angrily, annoyed even at this sight. "That is my business isn't it?" cool and reversed she is, as she was earlier this week, this changes however at the words of the Eldest. Although she accepts the parchent she watches it, "Maybe you are right, and I could have spoken in haste. I will wait a while to think this over. But if possible, if you have any other information about related topics I would very much like to get to know them better."
"You may ask our scholars about all which you need. I will be traveling away from the Stedding soon to help wit the rebuilding of Alindaer in Tar Valon. Perhaps you could bring it to the attention of the Aes Sedai there. I hear they are interested in perserving such objects from such dangerous people, and curious as to how they were created." Marith comments quietly, "But that is only as suggestion and not one you need take. If I am gone by the time you decide, you may speak with Elder Kaliel. Grouch though he may be, he does have the Stedding's best interests at heart."
Darius' fingers fidget slightly, as he waits patiently.
The gasp with which Farida takes a large sip of the oxygen around her is easily heard by even the people furthest away from her and her boll cheeks only show that she nearly forgets how to breath, as if she is more than a little frightened at something Marith said. When she speaks though she only nods, "I have met Elder Kaliel, I rather like him and I will follow his lead."
Marith's thin brows raise at Farida's gasp and her reaction to what she speaks. A small frown comes to Marith's features, though she does not question the woman on her reactions. "Then I wish you luck in your endeavor, Mistress Farida." She turns her attention to Darius, then murmurs, "I believe Master Darius wished to speak with you as well. When you make your decision about the parchment, please let Elder Kaliel know. He'll send me a pigeon should I be away."
Darius erms, and brushes at his coat's hem a bit. "Yes. I couldn't help but overhear some of what you and Mistress Farida were saying, Eldest. And I was just going to say... well, if I could bring a copy of the parchament to the Tower, I'm sure they would strike out. The Red Ajah, just because a man channeling could be involved, while the Browns for a ter'angreal. And the Tower would be the safest place for an object of the danger you have described..."
Farida giggles suddenly, "I will be sure to let him know as I will not leave without saying goodbye nor will I hand the parchment to anyone else but him." Those eyes sparkle with a lit fire which remains there even when she hears Darius and now she turns towards the man who now approaches her and at once her expression freezes. "I thank you for your words master Darius, and while I am sure that they are true I do not like the idea of giong to Tar Valon very much. But I am rather sure that you will tell them about this conversation anyway."
Darius scratches his check as he turns to Farida. "To be blunt, I will. Anything this dangerous needs to be led by the Tower."
"So long as they do not do things in haste." Marith comments, turning her eyes to Darius,"This is a matter for the Stedding as well, since the man left the item in our care."
Darius bows to Marith. "Of course, Eldest. I will leave things in wiser hands then mine. But the Tower will be told."
"If you all will excuse me, I have preparations to finish making before I must leave forthe city." With that Marith starts to back away from the group, heading back to her ownhovel in the ground.
Farida all but ignores Darius and simply watches the exchange between him and the Eldest, this is as she expected, why would she further make any words dirty about it? Not only this, but she also does not want to show disagreement but a line can be spotted between her brows by those with sharp eyes. "I thank you for your advise and help Eldest Marith."
Marith nods once to Farida, "The blessing of the Light and stillness upon you, Mistress Farida. You are welcome." With that the Eldest disappears into her own home.
