Justice System
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Ogier justice system consists primarily of the Council of Elders and the Speakers. The Council of Elders act as a panel of judges, while the Speakers present a case for the Elders to hear. While in the books the Speakers are usually asked to represent someone, on Tales of Taveren, are assigned to those who are accused of crimes. In other cases, Speakers -may- be asked by an Ogier to represent their needs or desires before the Elders. Speakers represent both viewpoints, the victim and the accused, then the Elders decide matters based on the evidence placed before them. The only people who do the talking in criminal cases, or other functions, are the Speakers and the Elders, except in rare occasions when witnesses, victim or accused are called forth to speak to the Elders on their own behalf. The Elders decision is generally final. There is no appeal process within the Stedding.
OOC: If you are going to commit a crime, please be aware of the laws and their penalties if the laws are broken. You -will- be held accountable for your actions ICly. We will try to work matters so that the best possible RP outcome will occur and that time spent detained by the Ogier Watch is kept to a minimum. Please think twice before committing acts that you may later come to regret.
