Tar Valon Welcome

EVENT: The Ogier are welcomed into the city of Tar Valon.
DATE: January 30, 1999
LOGGER: Marith

Courtyard: City Hall, Tar Valon
A rectangular courtyard, paved in grey stone, it is bounded on three sides by
the city's administrative buildings. On the fourth side a row of decorative
fruit trees protects the courtyard from the noise of the Plaza beyond. City
Hall itself is an octagonal building of silvery-blue stone, carved with friezes
of white marble, and capped with a four-sided cupola. The square structure
beside it looks like a wind-carved rock formation, and houses the Tar Valon
Guard.
The afternoon sun breaks on the faceted roof of City Hall, casting shifting
specks of light. Loose petals from the blossoming fruit trees are carried on
the spring wind, raining down across the courtyard. A wide staircase of white
stone, decorated with four female statues, leads to up to the triple sets of
double doors that afford entry into City Hall. A door plated with etched bronze
opens on the Guardhouse. The Alindrelle Plaza is visible through an archway set
into the row of trees.

Vanar nods back to Maggae.

Nontil enters through the archway to the southeast.

Erran enters through the archway to the southeast.

Andrin bows gravely to Marith and the other Ogier.

Maggae curtsies in a most Seam-Challenging Manner as the esteemed Ogier begin
to arrive.

The doors open and several Ogier enter the chambers. Nigh thirty by exact
count, maybe more, maybe less. Heading the group is Marith, wearing her usual
dress covered with a floral design. In the Stedding, this marks her as the
Eldest. She pauses far enough inside the room where the other Ogier can crowd
into the chamber. Several need to duck to get inside the area, lest they bump
their heads on the arched doorway.

Gasps and whispers run through the crowd at the sight of the Ogiers.

Tolson watches with interest as the Ogier arrive.

Teffendar enters through the archway to the southeast.

Vanar's never leave the group of Ogiers.

Alrik enters through the archway to the southeast.

Rio enters through the archway to the southeast.

Vanar's eyes never leave the group of Ogiers.

Rio walks down the plaza, taking in the sights.

Maggae flashes a complex smile to the Lord Captain Commander.

Andrin steps to the same spot that Alderic stood only a few days ago for
Andrin's investiture, looking out to the crowd in the courtyard. When he sees
Alrik, he beckons to him; a subtle gesture, but one that anyone might notice,
since he's standing in plain view.

Nykohlaz enters through the archway to the southeast.

Ilyzabet enters through the archway to the southeast.

"The blessing of the Light and stillness upon you," rumbles the voice of the
Eldest as the other Ogier crowd into the room (nearly thirty by count for those
who've just arrived). She moves a few steps forward hearing others entering
inside. Marith appears to address her words to everyone around her, hands
humbly folded before her.

Rio pulls up to a stop at the rear of the crowd. She watches the Ogier with
great interest as she pulls her shawl closer.

Arriving amungst many murmurs, Alrik walks easily along a path cleared by the
people's who eagerly move out of his way. His eyes instantly move towards the
dais and he sends a nod towards Andrin, making his way over.

Andrin bows formally. "May the Light forever guide and shape not only your
paths, but grace every aspect of your lives. Tar Valon welcomes you, Elder
Marith."

Asaran enters through the archway to the southeast.

Tolson looks with some curiosity at the arrival of one of the Children of the
Light, but soon turns his attention back to the ceremony at hand.

Ears twitch back and forth upon the Eldest's head. She exchanges glances with
those with her, a small frown forming her features, "Eldest Marith." She
corrects Andrin, though her frown slips away as if forgiving the human for his
mistake. A small smile touches her lips, "Daughter of Paloa daughter of Altar.
We were invited here to be welcomed by your High Councillor, Lord Alderic... I
believe?" Her features scrunch together as she looks about the yard for the
person who invited the group to the city.

Children in the crowd strain to see the Ogiers, and a lady or two fans herself
at the sight of them.

Rio makes a note of the arriving Children of Light and moves to cover her hand.
She appears to be more watchful of her surroundings, but is still focused on
the scene upon the dais.

Maggae dons her Smile of Rueful Apology. "Unfortunately, the High Councillor
had a most unfortunate complication, and cannot be here. Nonetheless, we are
most pleased to welcome you Eldest Marith, daughter of Paloa daughter of
Altar."

Andrin inclines his head, chastened by her correction.

Vanar's lips curve into a small smile when he sees the Children, but it is
quickly supressed.

As he approaches the dias, Alrik removes his gauntlets and tucks them behind
his belt before marching crisply up the steps to the dais and towards Andrin.

Andrin acknowledges Alrik's arrival on the dais beside himself and Maggae with
a small nod to the Lord Captain Commander of the Children of Light.

Once again Marith exchanges glances with thoes other Ogier present, attempting
to meet the eyes of those closest to her. Ears twitch back and forth, a touch
of uncertainty apparently touching her eyes. She then glances back to Maggae
and Andrin, "Your pain sings in my heart, Mistress. Please send the High
Councillor my regards upon his misfortunes." She moves more forward, heading
toward the dias now to allow more room for those entering, and for her own
Ogier to spread out a bit amongst the people present. "We have come in regard
to the township of Alindaer. We have heard word through various sources, most
notably the High Councillor himself, that the town was destroyed and that homes
are in need of reconstruction. We are here to offer our services and aid to the
city however needed, and would gladly help build homes as well as gardens of
vegetables for those in need of food."

Several of the Ogier appear to move in around the rest of the people, mingling
where possible. Some smaller Ogier can be seen as well, eyes wide in wonderment
- child Ogier who traveled with their parents from the Stedding.

Ilyzabet stands near the back close to Nykholaz curiously watching the ogier
over the crowd.

Nykohlaz watches the Ogier with fascination and curiousity.

Asaran looks about in amazement.

Elius tries to catch of the Ogier over the height of the crowd.

Nontil glances with uncertainty at the human gathering, then begins to greet
those closest to him.

Upon arriving atop the dais, Alrik reaches forward to clasp arms with Andrin in
a Borderlander fasion, "Peace favor your sword," a glint of mischeif in his eye
for Andrin at the word sword, "Councillor. Would you introduce me to our
guests?"

A small child's awed voice rings out. "Mama, what are those things?" As the
mother's shushes him, bits of scattered laughter are heard.

Tolson smiles when he hears the child's question.

"With us, we have a young treesinger, Nita, daughter of Corian daughter of
Marena.. She is quite talented, though newly discovered amongst us. She can
help aid the growing of any plants and trees that need to be restored." The
Eldest continues, her ears twitching some more. "She has a great wish and
desires to see the small town restored, as well as the plantlife." Marith seems
to smile, her eyes twinkling slightly with pride as she mentions the young girl
with her group.

Maggae curtsies deeply to the Lord Captain Commander. "May the Light shine
brightly upon you, Lord Captain Commander Alrik. Thank you so for coming
today."

Erran looks around nervously and walks to a small group of gathering men.

Maggae speaks in a clear, rich voice. "Today is a special day in the annuls of
Tar Valon. Out of the disaster that ruined Alindaer comes a bright benefit, the
dawn of unprecedented unification of many elements of our society. Together,
the Tower, the city of Tar Valon, the Children of the Light, our visiting
Nobility, and now the esteemed Ogier work together to restore hope and
happiness to the unfortunate victims of Dragonmount's eruption. Surely the
Light must smile on the efforts of so many good people working together."

One of the younger Ogier, braver than some of those with them, moves away from
his family to look more closely at the humans - despite the fact he's seen a
few within the Stedding.

Andrin lifts his chin to reply. "While the reconstruction has already begun, if
the village is to be preserved against further damage, should Dragonmount ever
erupt again, we will need the expertise of the Ogier to see to its protection.

More important, it seems to me, the pain of the tragedy of Alindaer's
destruction may be somewhat assuaged by the beauty which only the Ogier can
create."

Nontil smiles broadly with pride at Andrin's compliment of the beautey of ogier
construction.

Vanar continues to appraise the ceremony from afar, his arms folded and his
head cocked to one side.

Tolson watches the reactions of those around him.

Nontil seems to pic a human at random, then introduces himself with a formal
bow. "Greetings, I am Nontil, son of Lompir, son of Vectra, from stedding
Shangtai, accompanying the ogier from stedding Maotai to aid in the
reconstruction."

"Your words warm our hearts, sir." Marith addresses Andrin, having never heard
his or Maggae's name yet. "And yours as well Mistress. The Ogier will strive to
present their best work to those souls in need. We will remain until there is
no need for our aid in the reconstruction of the town. That, as Eldest, I
promise." Her eyes then flicker to Alrik. She regards him quietly for a few
moments, then bows her head in an almost regal manner - more respectful than
anything, "Your name sings in my hears Lord Captain Commander Alrik. It is good
to see the Childre of the Light aiding those less fortunate." Her ears flicker
slightly, listening to the things around her as addresses the Lord Captain
Commander.

Andrin gestures to the distinguished man at his side. "Also, Eldest Marith,
daughter of Paloa, daugther of Altar, may I introduce to you and to your folk,
Lord Valdemar al'Rik, Captain Commander of the Children of Light, who has been
one of the prime movers behind the rebuilding of Alindaer?"

Alrik smiles to Maggae and turns and bows, actually bows, to the Eldest. As he
straightens he pulls his tabard taut and arranges his white Saldaean cloak and
speaks with a strong voice used to commanding men, from atop the dais it
carries like any but a Power-enhanced voice, "Welcome Marith daughter of Paloa
daughter of Altar, your name sings in my ears." the Ogier's size only serves to
make him look shorter, but his posture remains rigid and confident.

Teffendar trudges through the archway to the southeast.

Maggae smiles at the assembled Ogier. "And I am Maggae, the High Councillor's
Social Secretary. Councillor Andrin is standing in Alderic's stead. The
gracious presence of the Ogier honor our city, and in the name of His
Excellency, the High Councillor Alderic, we welcome you. We ask all of our
citizens to extend a hand of greeting and friendship to our most illustrious
guests. We are at your service throughout your stay. Alindaer Village will be a
monument to your generosity and skill, and a living testament to the wonders
possible when people join hearts, minds, spirits and hands together for the
greater good."

Rio nods in reply to Nontil as he bows. "Peace be upon you, Nontil."

Derrick enters through the archway to the southeast.

Tolson smiles and nods in response to the speakers' words here today.

Maggae looks over the assembled crowd. "We have planned a reception for our
illustrious guests in the Ogier Grove and invite all present to attend and meet
these wonderful visitors to our city."

Vanar grins at the word 'reception.'

Many in the crowd bow and smile at the Ogiers and other notables at this joyous
celebration.

Andrin smiles, and steps forward. "And on behalf of our High Councilor, Alderic
Andivell, the people of Tar Valon, and the White Tower itself, I invite all of
you present to come along with us."

"I thank you for your warm greeting, Lord Captain Commander." Marith responds,
once again bowing her head with respect to Alrik. Her attention is then
directed toward Maggae a she speaks. She nods her head to the woman, "Your name
sings in my hears, Mistress Maggae. It warms my heart that the High Councillor
has such a receiving organization. I will tell him as much when I can meet with
him to discuss the arrangements and terms of our stay." She then nods her head
to Andrin, attempting to catch up with everyone. "And your name sings in my
hears as well, Councillor Andrin, the blessing of the Light and stillness upon
you all." She once again speaks the greeting she used when she arrived.

Vanar's grin widens.

Tolson smiles.

Derrick mounts the steps and walks into City Hall.

Andrin bows to Marith once again, and steps toward the stairs, walking out
toward the plaza, others falling in behind him.

Maggae takes Andrin's arm. "Shall we adjourn to the Grove?"

Andrin accepts Maggae's arm, and starts down the stairway.

Andrin notices Alrik behind him, and stops for a moment, waiting for the Lord
Captain Commander, who seems about to speak.

Reindahl enters through the archway to the southeast.

Alrik's voice still carries across the courtyard, "It is good of you to arive,
Eldest. The people of Alindaer have waited four long months for your arrival
since the High Councillor's announcement of your coming. The people of Alindaer
are so anxious as to have their homes built that most did not want to stop for
this one day. Perhaps you would visit them after the reception, and appease
their anxieties that you have finally come to aid in the destruction caused by
this Accursed mountain, yes?" the finally word a tribute to his time spent in
Amadicia.

Reindahl walks into the courtyard, seemingly in a hurry. Late as usual.

Rio remains with the crowd not far from the Ogier. She seems to look over their
group thoughtfully, but other than to return a greeting, says little.

Andrin continues to pause, three steps below Alrik now, for any reply from the
Eldest.

Maggae makes a truly heroic effort to control the amused smile that tugs so
insistently at the corners of her lips.

Someone in the crowd whispers loudly, "Are they going to have food and ale at
this party?"

Asaran grins.

Tolson's eyebrow raises just a bit, but quickly goes back down again. It is
almost unnoticable

Vanar grins again at 'food' and 'ale.'

Andrin looks to Marith, wondering what she will say, if anything; he happens to
overhear that murmur about food and ale, and he nods toward the fellow with the
big appetite, with a smile himself.

Rio's face takes on a slightly bored expression as she waits for the officals
of the event to finish their speeches. She snugs her shawl against her again
and scans the crowd.

Marith tilts her head curiously to the side at Alrik's words, ears twitching
slightly. Still, she keeps a look of calm about her. "Haste makes for waste,
Lord Captain Commander." The Eldest speaks an old Ogier proverb. "There were
things that need to be attended to and settled before we could make our own
journey. Guests were visiting the stedding that we could not leave behind.
Fires touched our own beloved woods, which needed tending. The Council of the
Stump needed to be left with implicit instructions of what to do during my time
away from my beloved home. Surely Narice explained all of this to the High
Councillor when I sent her." She does not seem to be making excuses, only
explaining what some already know. The Ogier take their time in doing things...
perhaps too much time. "And the masons wished to make plans ready for our
arrival so things could move along efficiently. I am certain you would not
argue with that." She smiles lightly in Alrik's direction. "Though we wil
indeed visit the sight to assess what needs to be done, and to appease those
that did not believe we would be coming, or that we exist even." Her eyes
twinkle at hte last.

Tolson chuckles quietly at the last statement of the Eldest.

Andrin smiles more widely at the Eldest's final words, and must agree with Rio
to some degree, for he quickly resumes his and Maggae's descent, and moves
toward the plaza again rapidly.

Asaran smiles nervously at the last statement.

A tiny girl, no more than 3 or 4 turns toddles up to Nontil and tugs curiously
on his trouser leg. Her mother freezes, unsure how to react.

Rio smiles softly at the Ogier Eldest's last comment. For it is plain now to
anyone in the area that the Ogier do indeed exist.

Alrik nods to the Eldest, "They will be grateful." his short, to the point
comment in grave contrast to that of the Ogier.

Explorer enters through the archway to the southeast.

Maggae walks with Andrin, her Air of Amusement obviously in place.

Nontil smiles warmly to small girl tugging on his trousers. "Hello little one.
I am Nontil. And who might you be?"

Explorer bows to Maggae and smiles. "Thank ye, m'lady. I appreciate your
assistance.

People fall in behind Maggae and Andrin as they walk toward the line of fruit
tress which separate the courtyard from Alindrelle Plaza, beyond.

Alrik then turns and marches quickly down the steps with the crispness of a
soldier, "Master Devarin.." he speaks from behind, no longer in a carrying
tone.

Andrin glances over his shoulder to Alrik, not pausing now, given the press of
the crowds.

Marith inclines her head to Alrik once more, then glances to the others, "We
would be delighted to join you at the reception." She comments, then starts to
file toward the exit with those already leaving the area. Ogier children are
brought into tow by their parents as they make their way out of the area.

The golden-haired child smiles up at the big Ogier. "Thuzthai," she says with a
lisp.

Rio follows the press of the crowd, moving toward the plaza.

Asaran walks through the archway to the southeast.

Alrik doesn't seem to have that problem.. of crowds. Everyone seems to want to
magically move from his path, and he has no problems reaching Andrin.

Elius stretches to look over the crowd to get a last glimpse of the Ogier

Nontil smiles at the girl. "Oh really? I was unaware." He chuckles in a
rumbling manner.

Tolson hangs back a little to watch the departing crowds before joining in the
procession.

Everyone traveled through the city to attend the reception at the Ogier Grove.

Ogier Grove: Tar Valon City, Tar Valon
Trees of every variety tower above you - leatherleafs, firs, oaks and elms.
Even the tallest of those is dwarfed by the mighty Great Trees, trees as tall
as many of the towers in the city, with trunks larger than some houses. Having
neither the haphazard appearance of a forest, nor the tame look of a park, the
Grove seems the very ideal of nature, the most perfect woods imaginable.

The way the light filters through the tree branches makes the ground resemble a
patchwork of shadows and light. The air seems as rich with life as the tree
branches are with fresh green leaves and buds. At the outer edge of the Grove
is a low wall carved with endless spirals that enchant the eye. An opening in
the wall leads north, back into the noise and bustle of the city.

Tolson walks over from the direction of Treebrother Boulevard.

Andrin walks over from the direction of Treebrother Boulevard.

Alrik strides over from the direction of Treebrother Boulevard.

Rio walks softly over from the direction of Treebrother Boulevard.

Nontil walks over from the direction of Treebrother Boulevard.

Vanar walks over from the direction of Treebrother Boulevard.

Nontil sighs deeply when he enters the grove and moves to one of the trees and
pats it fondly.

Maggae sways over from the direction of Treebrother Boulevard.

Explorer walks over from the direction of Treebrother Boulevard.

Rio walks into the Ogier Grove accompanied by a crowd of Tar Valon citizens and
ogier. She doesn't seem concerned by the close press of people around her and
continues to move with the flow of people.

Vanar follows the multitude into the Grove.

Marith arrives with thirty or so Ogier coming with her, each moving to a
different part of the grove. Some stare up in wonderment at the trees,
murmuring, "By the Trees and stillness...." It's apparent that some did not
believe that the Great Trees really existed within the city of Tar Valon. A few
more of the ogier spread out and carefully regard their surroundings, while the
children delightedly run off from their parents to romp in the grass and spring
flowers.

Explorer looks about and smiles softly to himself as he views the well-dressed
folk and beautiful scenery.

Erran walks over from the direction of Treebrother Boulevard.

Tolson stands in the grove and looks around a little.

Maggae smiles her Smile of Glad Welcoming. "We do hope you will enjoy your stay
here."

"When you have a moment, Master Devarin." Alrik tells the man before letting
him move on "I would like to speak to you of things," he then turns to Maggae,
"Your health seems to have improved from your ordeal, yes?"

Reindahl walks over from the direction of Treebrother Boulevard.

Darius moves about in the background, touching up last minute details.

Ilyzabet walks over from the direction of Treebrother Boulevard.

Explorer steps up closer to Maggae so as not to disturb the others. "Thankee
Lady. If such as ye are those that welcome newcomers, then tis a lovely place
to be.

Servants begin unpacking baskets of food and spreading bright cloths around on
the ground. A tun of wine and keg of ale, as well as a variety of punches and
teas are set up.

Rio continues to walk along, slowly edging her way from the main crowd until
she finds herself with a small amount of space beside one of the great trees.
From there, she observes the throng of citizens quietly.

Andrin nods to the Lord Captain Commander. "I think that both of us would like
to speak with you, Lord Alrik."

Andrin gestures toward Maggae as he speaks.

Ilyzabet keeps near the back of the crowd uninterested in venturing into the
press.

Marith smiles pleasantly at both Andrin and Maggae then moves to one of the
clothes. She nods her head to one of the servants then takes her place
carefully upon one of the clothes spread upon the ground. She looks on with
interest, ears flickering back and forth once in a while as she waits to see
what's being unpacked.

Maggae mutters to Explorer, "You have... indeed.... your... my office...
City... visitors... city."

Maggae gives Andrin That Look. "Just a word or two, Alrik."

Vanar navigates his way to the food and ale at one of the clothes

Andrin mutters to Maggae, "... us..."

Andrin's epxression brooks no argument.

Darius fades off from the main foreground. Now that the party has really begun
in full force, he could leave.

Maggae gives Andrin a steely, stubborn look.

Sande walks over from the direction of Treebrother Boulevard.

Explorer steps back as Andrin commands Maggae's attention.

Alrik nods to Andrin, "Certainly," and gestures with a hand for Maggae to step
aside, "I'll only have her but a minute, Master Devarin."

Andrin tells Maggae, with Alrik standing right next to both of them, "Rubbish.
He needs to know."

Rio steps back as a man with a large glass of ale and a plate of food nearly
bumps into her. The grove is packed with far more people than it should contain
on this day.

Andrin looks to Alrik, now. "You should take more than that, Alrik." His tone
is very serious.

Breads, wine, cheese, fruits, pastries, cold chicken, hams and other delights
are placed about in abundance. People begin to help them selves to the
refreshments.

Reindahl keeps himself in the background, looking around for a nice spot to sit
down for a while.

Vanar makes his way over towards Andrin, munching on a roll as he walks.

Maggae gives Andrin her If Looks Could Kill You'd Be Dead Look. She turns and
smiles at Alrik, and reaches to take his arm. "Shall we step under that tree?"

Nontil walks up to Rio. "Greetings my lady. I would love to make your
aquantance. It has been long since I last traveled to the cities of men."

Erran walks toward a cloth that seems to hold mugs of ale. He takes one and
sits down nearby.

Tolson smiles and chats with any who happen to speak to him.

Andrin gazes after Maggae and Alrik as they walk toward the tree, his jaw set
angrilly.

Vanar reaches Andrin as Alrik and Maggae walk away.

Darius starts to slip around the crowd, toward the boulevard. When he spots
Rio, and stops. trying to decide what to do.

Rio looks up at the tall Ogier that has approached her. "Peace be upon you.
Welcome to Tar Valon." She studies the Ogier with interest, this being the
first time she has gotten to see one of the visitors up close.

Elius walks over from the direction of Treebrother Boulevard.

Alrik moves away from anyone else to speak quietly with Maggae.

Nontil motions to the great trees. "It is good that these trees still stand.
Only Tar Valon has preserved their blessed grove."

Tolson finishes a conversation and sort of drifts into the crowd unnoticed.

Andrin catches sight of Sande, and nods to her, his expression easing
fractionally; then he notices Vanar, and nods to the man. "Can I help you,
sir?"

Vanar says to Andrin, "Councillor Devarin, I wish to speak to you about
employment, if you aren't busy."

Darius whews quietly, as Rio doesn't seem to notice him. He starts to retreat
in the other direction, a soft song of 'Pardon me' and 'So sorry' as he makes
his way by, or through, the other partygoers.

Erran finishes his ale quickly and stands up, and walks to find someone willing
to speak to him.

From within a tight little knot of novices and accepted of the Tower Sande
waggles her fingers at Andrin.

Andrin smiles to Vanar, the politician's mask quickly returning. "I hope that I
should have quite a little while, sir. May I ask your name?"

Reindahl finds a friend and the topic quickly drifts away from todays happening
to more philosophical matters...

Rio nods pleasantly to the giant Ogier. "We value the trees. Without them, our
fair city would not be the same." She pauses and then asks, "If perhaps I could
ask you a question?"

Andrin waves to Sande with a much more genuine smile for a moment before
turning to Vanar.

Vanar bows to Andrin, then says, "Vanar Baremos, at your service.... I hope."
He smiles his most charismatic smile.

Nontil nods deeply. "Of course. What would your question be?"

Explorer wanders over and helps himself to some bread and cheese, and a tankard
of ale.

Darius reaches the gate back, and pauses. "Maybe I should tell her I'm back at
least."

Ilyzabet wanders about occasionally stopping by the food and picking up a piece
of cheese to nibble on. She quietly watches as much as she can of the things
that are going on about her.

Andrin's eyes lighten again at that brilliant smile. "Pleased to meet you,
Master Baremos. You are the gentleman who wrote to me, then?"

Rio sighs and looks troubled. "I confess that I had another motive to coming to
this gathering today other than to see our city's visitors." She adds, "A
friend of mine recently traveled to your Stedding and I was hoping to find word
that he arrived there safely."

Explorer finds a spot near a tree, and settles himself to watch and listen.
Listening is what he does best.

Vanar nods, then says, "Yes, that was me."

Erran spots a lone human among the trees and walks towards him.

Nontil smiles. "I was only within stedding Maotai for a few weeks my lady, but
I will help if I can."

Darius thinks quietly, sinking to a seat at the gate.

Suzai finds her way to Erran. "Pick me up?" The tiny girl smiles up at the big
Ogier, crumbs of honey-cake about her lips.

Andrin replies to Vanar, "I will tell you quite frankly that I am hiring clerks
with minimal qualifications, because we will be short staffed with all the new
work from the Tower."

Rio smiles at the Ogier and nods. "Any word would be appreciated. I'm afraid
that my friend is not one for the road and I've been worried that he's fallen
into some mishap. His name is Darius. Darius Solluman. A human a little taller
than myself with black hair and pale skin. Professes to be a scholor. Does he
sound familar to you?"

Erran lifts up Suzai easily and craddles her in his arms. 'I am Erran'

Suzai wriggles around in Erra'ns large hands.

Maggae kisses Erran on the nose. "I'm Thuzthai. I'm up high."

Andrin notices Darius slumping to a seat, wondering, but has his attention on
Vanar for the moment.

Nontil thinks for a moment and furrows his brow. "Yes... I believe so. A
pleasant fellow.. Always writting. Yes, I saw him first with Nita, the
treesinger. I believe he made the trip back back with the ogier to Tar Valon. I
paid little attension though."

Vanar's eyes twinkle, "Well, then you will be glad to hear that I am superbly
qualified. I am sure I can lessen the burden of work you have from the Tower."

Rio looks surprised. "He came back? You are certain of this?" She glances
around the clusters of people in the grove as if the man might materialize out
of thin air.

Erran ears flicker back and forth at the attention.

Vanar flashes another winsome smile.

Andrin nods pleasantly. "This is good news. However, you will, I trust,
understand if I do not put new people, even those with great experience, on the
Tower books right away. I want to see you work for a bit first, on something a
bit less sensitive?"

Nontil considers for a moment. "I am truely not certain. I spent the trip
enjoying the view of the country side. I have been long in the stedding and
paid little attention to anything else.'

Tolson looks around and decides to find conversation somewhere.

Darius rises slowly. Nah, no need to bother Rio. Not right now, anyways.

Rio nods up at the Ogier. "I thank you in any case. At least I know he did not
die on the road." There is a note of relief in her voice. She composes herself
for a moment.

Marith's ears prick up slightly as she hears mentin of Darius. eyes widened a
bit to look around at those speaking about them. Ogier senses are better than
the norm.

Vanar smiles, "Oh, I assure you, I am more than qualified for the Tower books.
Before now, I had handled the account of one Master Gihhan Yurdren in Cairhien,
and his acounts are by no means small."

Darius walks out onto Treebrother boulevard.

Erran invites Tolson over to where he and Suzai seem to be talking and playinf

Explorer stands and stretches, his clothes blending in to the tree he was
sitting against hid him so well, the man standing beside him didn't notice him
until he moved.

Tolson notices Erran's invitation and strides over there. "Good day, friend
Ogier." He is grinning.

Nontil takes on a conforting tone. "He seemed a hardy enough fellow. He was in
wonderful health when I saw him within the stedding.

Marith's ears wilt after a moment, not having caught sight of the person
speaking. She stands from her seat upon the ground, finishing some wine and
some cheese. Fed, she looks about, eyes filled with curiousity.

Erran takes Tolson in his hands as he places Suzai next to him: 'Good day to
you.... I didn't catch your name.'

Explorer chuckles at the image of the small girl in the Ogier's arms. He starts
to walk past them, looking for more ale.

Andrin nods to Vanir. "It's not your qualifications that I doubt, Vanar. It's
simply that I don't know you, yet. I want to make sure that I know and
understand the strengths and weaknesses of everyone I have working on the Tower
accounts. In time, you will fall into that category. In the meantime, I will
want you to take over the bookkeeping from some of the accounts I have been
keeping personally. I have more responsibilities lately, and I want to make
sure that our longtime clientes have the best possible service."

Rio nods. "But I concern myself with personal matters too much. Tell me, how do
you find our city? Is it to your liking?" Rio asks this of the tall Ogier
standing before her.

Nontil says "Any city that sustains an ogier grove is a wonderful city indeed.
I have also been enjoying the fine masonry that can be found everywhere. It has
been over 50 years since I was in Tar Valon last. I look forward to working
stone for her again."

Rio blinks. "Fifty years? That was a very long time ago then." She smiles, "You
don't strike me as being that old."

A look of consideration passes over Marith's features, then she makes her way
over to Nontil, nodding to the Ogier. Her eyes move curiously to Rio, studying
her a moment, "The blessings of the Light and stillness upon you." Marith
speaks in greeting to those present around Nontil. She bows her head somewhat
respectfully to Rio, eyes still considering.

Reindahl and his tall friend continues their conversation, while slowly walking
around in the park, away from the rest of the people. "Yes, but...considered
the...fact that there is..."

Reindahl walks north into Treebrother Boulevard, and quickly disappears into
the crowd.

Vanar smiles thinly, "My character? Hmmm, I would like you to contact Jaron
Nichim of Tear. If you do not recognize that name, he is one of the High Lords
of Tear. I am sure he can account for my 'character.'"

Nontil seems pleased. "I am glad that one finally sees my youth. I feel very
old at times. Especially of late."

Several of the other Ogier continue to mix and mingle with those in the grove.
Children run rampantly with those of the human lot, each enjoying themselves
and having fun.

Small children. The kind that laugh and play, not the cloaked kind.

Rio turns and regards the Ogier woman for a moment and then inclines her head
to her. For the Aes Sedai bow to no one. "Peace be upon you, Eldest Marith. It
was a fine speech you gave in the square this day."

Explorer smiles and nods to Tolson as he passes.

Tolson nods to the passing Explorer.

Andrin shakes his head at Vanir's words. "I had not meant your character, or
personality. I want to understand how you work. What kind of mistakes you make,
when you make them -- and everyone makes some -- and how you approach keeping
an account. Your work habits, the way that you interact with the clientele and
the other clerks. That sort of thing. The sort of thing that can only be gained
by observation over a period of time."

An amused expression passes over Marith's features, "You cannot begin to feel
old, Nontil, until you have reached my present age and beyond." Her eyes
twinkle somewhat as her ears move back and forth in a playful manner. Despite
her reserved nature, she at least knows how to have a little fun. She bows her
head respectfully to Rio, "I thank you, Mistress." She does not assume the
station of the other woman, "The works I spoke are true and from the hearts of
all that are in the stedding, including those that had to be left behind."

Rio smiles at Nontil, "Nonsense! Anyone can see that for an Ogier you are
young...but fifty years is an great deal of time for one of our people."

Maggae smiles a bit.

Tolson smiles to Erran. "My name is Tolson."

Vanar bows once more to Andrin, "Then I guess I will have to handle a few
smaller accounts while I wait. it will be an honor to work for you, sir."

Nontil laughs merrily. "That can be a while for members of any race, but yes I
can see how you would see it as a great deal. Eldest Marith, have you ever been
to Tar Valon?"

Andrin smiles. "I am sure that you will find the terms of employment
satisfactory, given your experience. Can you begin the day after tomorrow?"

Rio smiles at Marith. "I'm sure that the people of Tar Valon are equally glad
to have you hear. If for no other reason than to dispel the notion that Ogier
do not exist."

Alrik laughs at something Maggae says, "That is indeed a humorous story, Miss
Felix." smiling and harboring none of the usual stiffiness of the Lord Captain
Commander, "My wife shall enjoy it immensely."

Vanar grins, "Certainly."

Maggae curtsies deeply to Alrik, and in such a fashion as to show her charms
most fetchingly. "I have taken enough of your time, Lord Captain Commander. It
was very good of you to come. May the Light ever shine brightly upon you. I
still look forward to meeting your wife for those ...lessons. My regards to all
the Children, and say a special hello to Alasanda for me."

Maggae moves to kiss Alrik lightly...

Erran says "I am called Erran"

"In truth?" Marith responds to Nontil first, shaking her head, "I have only
been to other Stedding. This is my first trip into any of the cities." Despite
the saddened expressoin that touches her features fo a few moments, even the
Eldest looks as youthful as some of the children visiting the city for the
first time. "And I do hope it will be a pleaant stay." She then addresses Rio,
chuckling slightly, "I would have thought with the Waygates opened in other
areas that we would have been more known at least here in Tar Valon. Yet, as we
walked through the streets I saw how shocked most people were. I suppsoe that
not as many as I had imagined were leaving teh Stedding. The way that Eldest
Kamala, Light rest her soul, spoke they traveled away from the Stedding every
day."

Tolson nods and smiles. "Did you have a good journey?"

Erran says: 'Quite pleasent, though the little children sometimes were a bit
enthusiastic.. I bit too loud' Erran raises his hand to his temple.

Alrik hasn't a clue how to react, except to remember his wife is Saldaean,
which means he's none to comfortable with the kiss, but he does indeed seem
more a human being than a militant commander, "I value your betrothed too much
to allow you to have these lessons. The Council does not need another
blubbering fool, which I'm sure my wife teaching you the S'sara would do to
him, and my daughter will be thankful for your hellos." he looks through the
trees at the sun, "I should be returning to the village, I have wages to
distribute today." he takes a step back and begins to tug on his gauntlets,
"Walk in the Light."

Nontil says "Ogier leave stedding Shangtai only rarely. I beleave it has been
some twenty years since any ventured to Tar Valon."

Rio is surprised. "Waygates? Waygates are open?" She gazes up at the Ogier
Eldest thoughtfully.

Maggae watches the Lord Captain Commander move away, her Air of Amusement
firmly about her. She murmurs, "I've other teachers...I just wanted to know
many variations..."

Vanar gives one last bow to Andrin, "If you will excuse me?"

Tolson grins. "I'm glad to hear that it was a good journey."

Andrin nods to Vanar. "By all means. Enjoy the reception."

Marith gives Rio an odd look, nodding her head a bit, " The waygates have
always been open." She furrows her brow a bit, ears wilting slightly, "Except
our own. Eldest Kamala, Light rest her soul, closed it against humans coming to
Stedding Maotai. I mean to be changing that. I think the Ogier should learn
more of the world rather than keep cloistered. So long as they observe the
pact, they are now welcome in Maotai, however I need to find what Eldest Kamala
did with the keys."

Vanar again starts towards the food and ale.

Flower walks over from the direction of Treebrother Boulevard.

Maggae glides with fluid grace to the small group with whom the Ogier Eldest
speaks, and waits quietly.

Alrik looks over at Andrin and, noticing he's busy, asks Maggae, "Give the
Councillor my regards, yes?" and makes his exit.

Flower wanders in among the trees, cupping something in her hand and talking to
it quietly, her face displaying great excitement.

Rio nods, absorbing the information that Marith has told her.

Maggae smiles to Alrik. "I'll be most glad to do so."

Tolson nods to Erran. "If you will excuse me, I feel like wandering some more.
It has been good to meet you." He bows.

Nontil notices Maggae's approach and turns to greet her. "Greetings. I am ogier
Nontil, son of Lompir, son of Vectra, from stedding Shangtai."

Erran bows in return and turns toward another tankard of ale

Explorer kisses your hand softly and smiles up at you. "At your command,
m'lady.

Alrik strides north into Treebrother Boulevard, and quickly disappears into the
crowd.

Jhafir jingles over from the direction of Treebrother Boulevard.

Jhafir walks cautiously into the Grove, bells about him chiming with his walk.
He looks around at all the people and steps closer to the trees. A warder
accompanies him, behind and to the side.

Tolson glances at the departing Child of Light, but goes back to wandering
amongst the people.

Erran picks up a large Tankard and picks up some fruit.

Maggae curtsies deeply, another testament to her dressmaker's skill at
stitching strong seams. "The pleasure of this meeting is mine, Nontil, son of
Lompir, son of Vectra, from stedding Shangtai. I am Maggae, High Councillor
Alderic's Social Secretary. You grace our city with your presence."

Marith turns her attention away from Nontil and Rio, catching Maggae coming in
their direction. She turns when she notices the secretary is waiting to be
noticed, then bows her head slightly, "Mistress Maggae, your name sings in my
ears." She comments quietly, greetting Maggae.

Still muttering to the thing in her hands, Flower kneels down by one of the
trees, setting whatever it is down, and crouching back on her haunches as she
watches it crawl away.

Rio glances at the secretary as attention flows from the group to her. She
doesn't offer a curtsey to the woman, but does nod her head in acknowledge of
her presence.

Jhafir stays underneath a tree, taking many moments to study every individual.
An awkwardly long time. Nothing seems to change the expression. Ogier, Aes
Sedai. His face is a dead ringer for a statue, to any who are bothering to
look, until.. he sees Rio, a mark of recognition, but he moves closer towards
the tree still, ignoring the Warder over his shoulder.

Vanar looks at the sun, then starts muttering to himself as he briskly leaves
the Grove,

Vanar walks north into Treebrother Boulevard, and quickly disappears into the
crowd.

Jhafir is waiting for approval to play a gentled channeler.

Tolson walks over the Flower and looks down towards her with a smile. "Good
day, mistress." He bows.

Nontil says "Humans are as kind as ever," He smiles. " I have missed the site
of humans.""

Maggae curtsies to the Eldest. "Marith, daughter of Paloa daughter of Altar,
the Light fills my soul with the wonder of meeting you and your kith and kin.
Our city will smile for the duration of your visit. You generosity is most
appreciated."

Nontil turns to Rio. "I am a stonemason among my people. What is it that you do
my lady?"

Sande walks north into Treebrother Boulevard, and quickly disappears into the
crowd.

Maggae gives Andrin a Significant Look, then turns her eyes in the direction of
the Ogier.

Flower rises and turns as she hears Tolson's voice. Her gaze, perhaps having
somehow avoided the presence of the Ogier when she came in, falls now on the
nearest one, and she tilts her head consideringly, the man's words perhaps
forgotten as she studies the Ogier.

Rio gives Nontil a small smile. "I mediate disputes...among other things."

Erran's Ogier position text field has been set to: Stonemason

Tolson follows Flower's gaze with a grin.

Andrin , seeing Maggae with the Eldest, makes his way over to the Ogier leader
himself, trying to tell if she is still in conversation with Rio?

Marith inclines her head almost regally to Maggae as once again she's blessed
with honorific words, "Again it warms my heart that you welcome us so, Mistress
Maggae." She pauses slightly, then adds, "Tell me, do you know where we might
be able to stay in this city? Could you recommend a good inn with plenty of
beds, or several Inns?" With nearly thirty Ogier, a place to stay would be
crucial.

Nontil says "It is good for one to mediate disputes. Arguments are such
terrible things. They usually end with hasty words.""

Flower's eyes finally turn to refard Tolson, and her considering look turns
into a frown, and she mutters softly, "Why...Why are you here?"

Quietly and efficiently, servers continue to clear debris and replenish the
refreshments as needed.

Erran wanders through the croud looking for conversation.

Tolson looks puzzled for only an instant as the grin quickly returns to his
face. "I'm not sure I understand what you mean, mistress."

Flower waves a hand a little, "Oh, I see, I see...Here to learn? I'm sure they
can teach you, teach you how they do it. I'd heard, oh yes, but to sm...to
see...it's like nothing. Exactly like nothing."

Ilyzabet wanders about the trees looking up at them taking them in as she does.
Nibbling on a piece of cheese as she wanders about, she occasionally watches
the others in the crowd.

Seeing that Marith is talking to Maggae, Andrin notices Erran, and changes
course toward him. "Greetings, friend Ogier. Welcome to Tar Valon."

Maggae smiles her Smile of Glad Helpfulness to the gracious Ogier Eldest. "We
have several fine establishments in Tar Valon. I recommend the Great Tree Inn,
SwiftWater House, and the SeaFolk Hostel. The Tree probably has the greatest
number of rooms available, wouldn't you say, Darling?" She asks as Andrin
approaches, addressing the last to him, then frowning (tho not in a manner that
would create unattractive wrinkles) as he veers away.

Erran smiles and turns around to address the man walking towards him. "Thanking
You. I am the Ogier Erran a Stone Maison. You might you be?"

Tolson angles his head a little to one side. "Learn from whom, mistress?"

Jhafir's eyes follow Ilzabet as she approaches the tree underneath which he
stands. He makes no attempt to hide this and nods with a blink in a greeting if
she makes eye contact.

Flower points towards the nearest Ogier, and looks at Tolson in confusion,
"Them. Those very tall people over there. Trust me, it's okay. They wouldn't
possibly hurt you."

Kus'kinn walks over from the direction of Treebrother Boulevard.

Maggae glances at the Arafellan Noble, curious, but remains with the Ogiers.

Marith gives a gracious bow of her head as she listens to Maggae, "Thank you
for your advice mistress. I will definitely look into the Inn first, then send
others off to the other places mentioned. I would not want to be a burden to
the proprietors."

Andrin smiles in return, gazing up into Erran's amazing visage. "I am Andrin
Devarin; I sit on the Council here in Tar Valon. I am overseeing the project to
rebuild Alindaer. I expect that you and I will be working together, to some
extent."

Rio glances around the grove and spies the tall arafellin prince under one of
the trees. She notes the warder at his side and seems to nod as if she were
noting an item on a checklist.

Tolson nods. "Ah. No. I haven't come to learn from them. I have come to meet
people, though. And, you seemed a likely candidate." He smiles.

Nontil seems curious. "Do the inns have many ogier beds? Human beds can be so
tiny at times."

Flower folds her arms and shakes her head a trifle, "No...Nonono...Not a bit of
it."

Ilyzabet's eyes travel over the trees and as the sweep downwards her eyes
settle on Jhafir for a moment. She nods and smiles a little in response.

Maggae shrugs uncomfortably. "Of that I'm not certain, but we shall endeavor to
see you comfortably accomodated as quickly as possible."

Tolson smiles. "Ah. Well then, I will let you be. It was nice to speak with
you, mistress." He bows.

Flower smiles and waves the man off, "Nice to speak, yes, yes...Fare well."

Tolson wanders off to find new conversation with those he hasn't met, possibly
The warder steps forward and says something to Jhafir, who turns his head away
and fails to reply, instead frowning at an invisible something. The Warder
glides away and approches Rio.

"Our thanks Mistress Maggae." Marith smiles gently, her voice a soft rumble -
though loud to human ears. "Any help that you can afford to give us would be
greatful.

Rio notices the warder walking toward her and slowly pulls away from the group
of Ogier, moving closer to the cloaked man.

Looking a bit homesick and lost Kus'kinn wanders through the crowd looking for
a familar face or two

Flower turns her head enough to look at Jhafir, her mouth turning down into a
sharp frown.

Nontil wanders away from the group and nearly runs over Tolson, failing to see
the smaller man.

Kus'kinn sees Maggae and for some reason begins to walk in her direction....
something if familar about the Human Woman

The Warder asks something quietly of Rio.

Tolson quickly moves out of the Ogier's way and grins up at him. "Good day,
friend Ogier."

Nontil starts as he sees Tolson and pulls up short. "My appologies friend
human. I am Nontil, of stedding Shangtai."

"Your pardon my lady,..... Have we met somewhere before, you certainly look
familiar to me" Kus'kinn says to Maggae in a low rumbling voice

Tolson bows with a smile. "I am Tolson. It is good to meet you."

Maggae smiles at the newly arrived Ogier. "I do not believe so, and I am
certain I should remember so charming a fellow as yourself. I am Maggae, High
Councillor Alderic's Social Secretary."

Kus'kinn says "And I am Kus'kinn and glad to be about yon fair city, tis nice
to meet thee My Lady"

Marith turns her gaze to Kus'kinn as he approaches, "Kus'kinn." She greets,
offering a faint smile to the other Ogier that travelled with her and the other
thirty in the group who are spread about the Grove.

Nontil bows and fingers his pocketed chisels. "It is good to meet you as well.
The people of Tar Valon have greeted us with splendor.

Maggae curtsies again, her gown this day performing heroic duty. "The pleasure
of this meeting is all mine, Kus'kinn. Please let me know if in anyway I can
make your stay here more pleasant."

Erran nods his head: 'Yes.. yes.. I will be there'

Kus'kinn says "Yes, my eldar, may I be of service?"

Tolson nods. "They are very good at being open and friendly to visitors. I have
experienced that myself over the past few days."

Kus'kinn says "my pardon my Eldest, I am unfamiliar and need some tutoring,
please be patient with me?"

Rio listens to the warder for a few minutes and then nods at his request. The
gaidin walks over to the food tables, leaving his charge behind. "Do not be
long..." the woman tells the warder smartly.

Nontil eyebrows raise. "Oh, are you a visitor to this place as well?"

Maggae dons her Air of Rueful Apology for all the Ogier about her. "I'm afraid
I've other duties to which to attend and must excuse myself. Please feel free
to contact me at my office in City Hall at any time, or send word to my
quarters in SwiftWater House."

Marith shakes her head a bit, though a small frown touches her lips at the
marred title. Confusion, for a brief moment, lights her eyes. When he corrects
things himself, Marith smiles lightly, nodding her head a bit, "Indeed, so it
seems young Kus'kinn. I had no wish of you. I was merely sending my greeting."

Andrin takes a short step back, realizing that it will be less awkward to talk
to the towering Ogier from just a bit farther away, and having heard that they
have sharp ears. "We will have some interesting problems for a stonemason,
Erran. Have you ever had to build to protect a place from lavaflows?"

Tolson nods with a grin. "I am indeed."

Kus'kinn says "yes, and anxious to begin my tasks with rocks and stone, My
greeting then to you Eldest, should you have need of me, you have only to
beckon....."

Maggae moves to Andrin's side. "Darling, I need to be going, loathe as I am to
do so."

Rio starts to walk toward the prince while the warder is away, but then someone
near the gate to the grove catches her eye. She freezes in her tracks and
stares.

Nontil says "What land do you hale from Tolson?""

Kus'kinn sees the explorer and starts to move slowley in his direction

Andrin kisses Maggae lightly, saying to the Ogier he is with, "Erran, this is
Maggae, the social secretary to the High Councilor, and my intended bride.
Maggae, Erran is one of the stonemasons among the Ogier."

Andrin nods to Maggae. "I'll look for you later, then?"

Tolson grins mischeivously. "Oh, from here and there. Are you looking forward
to helping with the rebuilding efforts?"

Explorer raises an eyebrow at Andrin's pose. "Ah, Lady...as ever, I am too late
to capture the heart of the most beautiful woman here.

Jhafir watched as the Warder walked away, and had already bagen to take a step
behind the tree when he noticed Rio walking towards him. He stops, then follows
her eyes towards he gate.

Explorer chuckles. "See? Told you..can't get my commands straight.

Rio shakes her head and blinks. She looks confused.

Maggae curtsies again, her dress miraculously remaining intact. "Ogier Erran,
it is my great pleasure to meet you." She returns Andrin's kiss and gives him a
Look of Things to Speak of Later. "If you will excuse me tho?"

Marith nods her head gently at Kus'kin, smiling fondly at the young Ogier,
"Indeed. I am certain Master Andrin will be seeking our help shortly." She
comments lightly, eyes following Rio as she moves along.

Nontil breaths deeply and pats his pocketed chisels. "Yes, I am eager. It has
been long since I worked more than simple needs of my people. I look forward to
the hard work ahead."

Erran shacks his head.. No i don't believe any of us have.

Kus'kinn says "your pardon Marith, are the Ogiers free to wander yon city, and
where will we find lodging and a bit to eat?"

Andrin nods to Maggae. "Of course."

Maggae stops by the Arafellan Nobleman for a moment, and waits politely.

Erran bows to Andrin and Maggae: 'A Please, may the light shine on you'

Tolson takes some time to toss a quick bow to Maggae, whom he notices preparing
to leave before continuing his conversation.

Andrin turns to Erran. "I thought that it was unlikely, but I might have hoped
that someone could have had such experience; in any event, I know that we will
have the best possible craftswork done to see to the protection of the village.
I am sure that this will be of great relief to the people who are going to
resettle in Alindaer."

Tolson turns back to Nontil and grins. "Ah, it is good to hear of someone who
likes hard work and a challenge."

Marith turns her attention to Kus'kinn, offering a light smile, "There's some
food on the picnic clothes spread about the ground, and some drinks being
served about the grove. Afterwards, you are welcome to wonder the city.
Mistress Maggae directed my attention to the Great Tree Inn, Swiftwater House
and the Seafolk Hostle. I will be checking on the Inn myself, you may check on
the others."

Erran smiles: 'We all hope so, we have come in a time of need and are willing
to help to the best of our abilities.'

As he heads toward the table bearing food, Kus'kinn begins to sing a light and
airy song sounding more like someone playing a low pitched flute

Andrin nods again to Erran. "Thank you all for coming. I should speak to the
Eldest, and then I must leave myself, if you will forgive me?"

Nontil grins and sparkly comes to his large, round eyes. "Yes, a chanllenge
would be most welcome. I was once considered great among the stonemasons of
stedding Shangtai."

Erran bows formally: 'May the light shine on you.'

Reaching the table and ending his short song, Kus'kinn fills a plate and heads
for a tree root to dine

Andrin bows to Erran in turn. "And may it ever guide your steps."

Maggae curtsies again to the Arafellan. "My Lord, I've not had the honor of you
acquaintance. I am Maggae, High Councillor Alderic's Social Secretary. At you
convenience I'd be most grateful for a proper introduction."

Erran says "We can only hope."

Tolson raises his eyebrows a little and nods. "Really? Well, Tar Valon is most
fortunate to have you, and the rest of the Ogier, to help it rebuild. I look
forward to seeing the results of this large effort." He smiles.

Explorer wanders a bit more...looking at the varied trees and humming a quick
reel to himself. He stops short and listens to Kus'kinn's song..and tries to
run it over again in his head.

Andrin smiles once again to Erran as he turns to approach Marith. "Eldest, if I
may..?"

Jhafir turns his head from the gate when he notices the woman standing near
him. He looks at her and raises an eyebrow.

Maggae murmur, "May I contact you, Lord...?"

Kus'kinn eyes Explorer as he hums a tune, wondering if he is trying to speak
Ogier.

Marith turns her attention away from Nontil and Kus'kinn, once more distracted.
A tufted brow lifts faintly at Andrin's words, tilting her head to the side
curiously, "Your name sings in my ears Master Andrin, what can I do for you?"
She murmurs in the quietest rumble she can manage.

Rio walks toward the gate, her eyes on one of the people there.

Erran turns and heads for a cloth that is layed on the ground. He squated and
picked up a Tankard of ale. Then filled a plate with fruit and cheese

Andrin replies briefly, not wishing to distract the Ogier from her people for
long. "Inasmuch as I must be leaving, I wanted to extend the High Councilor's
regrets.:

Rio walks softly north into Treebrother Boulevard, and quickly disappears into
the crowd.

Nontil practically beams. "The work shall be marvelous. It shall out shine even
the work that was done before it. Yes, the stone shall sing with the marvelous
craftsmanship."

Explorer's eyes refocus as he notices the Ogier looking at him. "My apologies,
I was just trying to set the tune you sang into my memory."

Jhafir opens his mouth to speak- his voice a soft, calm monotone, "Contact me?"
his eyes dart to Rio's departure and to the Warder whom she dismissed.

Finishing his sup, following with a long drink of water, Kus'kinn stands to his
full 12 foot height and stretches, he looks down a the small human and smiles,
My name is Kus'kinn friend and your........

Tolson grins. "Wonderful. That shall truly be a sight to behold."

Kus'kinn gazes at Explorer as if waiting for a response

Marith nods her head graciously to Andrin, smiling gently, "Please extend my
regards to him, Master Andrin, and let him know that I should like to make an
appointment with him in the nigh future."

Maggae smiles charmingly. "So our office can welcome you to Tar Valon."

Explorer smiles. "I am Garen. It is an honor and pleasure to meet you.

Andrin bows for a final time, and replies, "It will be my honor, Eldest Marith.
May your stay in our city be a pleasant one for you and for all of your people.
Please forgive my haste, but I must be going; farewell."

Looking around again as if lost, Kus'kinn wanders the grove disappearing from
view behind a large tree.

Ilyzabet wanders about the edge of the crowd through the trees until she
reaches the opening in the wall that heads back out onto the boulevard.
Stepping out onto the boulevard she silently leaves

Ilyzabet walks north into Treebrother Boulevard, and quickly disappears into
the crowd.

Kus'kinn walks north into Treebrother Boulevard, and quickly disappears into
the crowd.

Erran walks over from the direction of Treebrother Boulevard.

Jhafir blinks at the woman and shakes his head, silver bells chiming in the
night as he does, and mingling with that melodic voice, "I have already been
welcomed by the White Tower." a touch of sarcasm?

"The blessing of the Light and stillness upon you, Master ANdrin." The Eldest
responds before Andrin departs. She looks about the grove, then she too makes
her way toward the exit, curiosity deep within her eyes. The other Ogier,
however, continue to mingle.

Maggae smiles at the Nobleman. "Then I shall ontact you there."

Kus'kinn walks over from the direction of Treebrother Boulevard.

Maggae waits for Andrin, then blows kisses to all, exaggerating that sway of
her hips as she leaves. "May the Light shine brightly upon you all."

Andrin walks over to take Maggae's hand, and together they depart the Ogier
Grove.

Maggae sashays north into Treebrother Boulevard, and quickly disappears into
the crowd.

Andrin walks north into Treebrother Boulevard, and quickly disappears into the
crowd.

Hellan walks over from the direction of Treebrother Boulevard.

"For what purpose?" Jhafir doesn't even know who this woman is, then blinks as
the woman is was speaking to is suddenly swept away

Kus'kinn walks north into Treebrother Boulevard, and quickly disappears into
the crowd.

Hellan looks around and finds a nice spot to sit and enjoy this place

Tolson looks up to Nontil once more and smiles. "If you will excuse me, there's
more people I feel like meeting. It was a great pleasure meeting you, Nontil."

Erran starts towards Nontil...

Nontil nods kindly. "Certainly. It was a pleasure."

Nontil turns to Erran as he approaches.

Tolson bows to the Ogier then turns and walks in another direction.

Erran reaches Nontil and offers him a tankard of ale

Tolson notices Jhafir standing under a tree and heads in that direction.

Nontil smiles and gladly accepts the ale. "Thankyou Erran. A good drink would
be most welcome."

Erran lifts his tankard to his lips and starts to drink.

The Warder being distracted and Rio Sedai having left, and now Maggae as well,
Jhafir makes to move, finally, but becomes acutely aware of Tolson's approach.
He stops and patiently waits to see what the man needs of him.

Garen walks over from the direction of Treebrother Boulevard.

Tolson smiles as he reaches Jhafir's location. "Good evening, my lord." He
bows.

Erran finishes off his tankard, and walks to another cloth for some more food..

Nontil begins to drink as well. "This is fine ale. Now, Erran, I am a visitor
from stedding Shangtai and have yet to meet all the stonemasons from stedding
Maotai. Have you completed all of your training?'

Garen wanders over to the food and finds a mug of ale to refresh himself.

Jhafir's eyes follow the man's bow and rise at his words. With neither a smile
nor a scowl, he asks simply, his tone mellow, "Is it?" intended as neither rude
nor dismissing, like he truly doesn't know if it is, and would be told.

Nontil gathers food from one of the cloths and helps himself to the food.

Tolson grins. "I like to think so, my lord."

Garen strolls the grounds, nodding pleasantly to those he passes..listening to
scraps of conversation and softly humming a lively tune.

Erran takes some food and walks back over to Nontil: 'No i haven't, I am still
in training. I hope to finish my training by the time we have completed
rebuiling Alindaer.

Jhafir shrugs his right shoulder, sending the bells along that sleeve into
concert, "If you view it as such, then so it is. One evening is the same as any
other." he replies with melancholy.

Nontil smiles. "Really? I will be glad to give you any assistance that you
would need in the construction. I am pleased to see that one still in
apprenticeship would assert himself enough to help in the rebuilding."

Tolson grins slyly. "Perhaps so, perhaps not, my lord. Allow me to introduce
myself. I am Tolson."

Garen finishes his ale and finds a spot near a tree. Putting one foot up on a
high root, he slips a small wooden flute out of his pouch and begins to softly
play a lilting tune.

Erran nods. "That would be appritiated

Nontil says "The building will take some time, but the work will be excellent
in quality."

"May peace favor your sword, Tolson," the prince replies with a musical nod, "I
am Jhafir." the lack of title glares, he either expects it to be known, or
doesn't care for it to be.

Erran says "As is all Ogier work..""

Tolson smiles. "An honor, my lord." He bows again.

Nontil inclines his head. "Yes, as is all. I am hoping to create some of my
finest work here. May the light favor our work."

Erran says "Yes, may it..I am lucky to be here as i am so young..but i have
been compimented of my work before, but that was not something protecting
lavaflow either..."

Jhafir says "I am only a man." Jhafir's calm monotone speaks to Tolson, "Honor
is to be earned, how I have I earned your honor?""

Marith returns to the grove once more, eyes still wide with near childish
wonderment. She nods her head to those Ogier that remained, looking about the
area carefully.

Evin scurries nervously over from the direction of Treebrother Boulevard.

That damn Arafellin honor, they're as strange as Aiel sometimes- not that many
people know anything of Aiel honor.

Tolson grins. "Honor for me is in the meeting. I'm honored to make the
acquaintence of another person, my lord."

Nita walks over from the direction of Treebrother Boulevard.

Evin seems astonished to run into three Ogier at once.

Jhafir purses his lips as he considers this, "Then it is my honor to meet you,
Tolson."

Nontil scratches his head for a moment and absentmindedly fingers his chisels.
"Perhaps we should survey the damage at Alindear village?"

Erran says "That might be an idea.."

Evin's eyebrows climb as high on his head as they will go.

Tolson smiles and bows his head. "Thank you, my lord."

Marith turns her attention as Nita as she enters the grove. A light smile
touches her lips, "Nita..." She greets, her voice a soft rumble, for an Ogier.

Nontil walks over to Eldest Marith. "Eldest Marith, Erran and I wish to survey
the damage at Alindear village. We shall asses the damage and report back to
you."

Making her way into the grove, Nita's eyes scan around for the assemblance,
finding them at Marith's call. She walks over, curtseying. "Eldest. I am sorry
I am late."

Jhafir looks over the man's head to some of the Ogier, notably the eldest. His
head looks down at the man, just his head, though, not down his nose, and asks
quietly "Have you met any of the Ogier, Tolson?"

Marith turns her gaze back to Nontil and Erran briefly nodding her head, "Take
care in the city. Not all humans will be as welcoming as most. We are still
strange creatures to them." She warns quietly, concern briefly touching her
eyes, "A few of the others will be following shorly so they can see the damage
as well and consider what supplies wil be most needed."

Tolson nods. "Yes, my lord. I have spoken with a couple of them."

Evin abruptly recognizes Marith. "Eldest...Welcome to Tar Valon."

Jhafir asks, indeed honestly asks, "Would you introduce me to some?" still
quiet and calm, a dire contrast to the rumbling of the Ogier.

Tolson nods. "I would be most happy to oblige you, my lord."

Nontil bows deeply. "Your words are heeded Eldest. Thankyou for your wisdom."
Nontill sees Nita and bows to her as she approaches. "It is good to see you
again Treesinger. I am sorry, but we are on our way out." Nontil motions to
Erran to follow and heads out of the grove.

Hearing Nontil's words, Evin leaves the grove.

Evin scurries nervously north into Treebrother Boulevard, and quickly
disappears into the crowd.

Out in the street, a woman's voice is heard to scream, "Trollocs! They've
invaded the city!!"

Nita takes a place slightly behind Marith, nodding with a smile to Nontil at
his greeting.

Erran bows to Nita: 'Good Evening Sora'Har, i would stay and talk but i must
leave' Erran bows to Marith: 'Good Evening to you.'

Jhafir spins suddenly, his hands reaching above each shoulder with haste to
grab at.. nothing. He doesn't look to comfortable with grasping nothing above
his shoulders. Then looks at the ground and hastily moves outside of the shadow
of the tree he is in, into the light of the setting sun.

Nontil walks north into Treebrother Boulevard, and quickly disappears into the
crowd.

Marith's eyes seek out the young man that called to her. Spying Evin she nods
her head, "Master Evin, a welcome sight to see you." She responds to the young
man, a smile lightly touching her features, "Has your business prospered? I
remember it should be open by now, yes?" Before he can she finally addresses
Nita, "It is better to be late, Nita, than to act in haste." Marith seems to
smile to the young Ogier, missing the fact that Evin has missed her greeting.

Erran walks north into Treebrother Boulevard, and quickly disappears into the
crowd.

Marith's eyes widen and her ears wilt at the call of Trollocs, "I did warn
them..." She looks a bit down trodden at that particular action.

Tolson glances about. "Hmm. My apologies, my lord. The Ogier I have already met
have departed. Perhaps we could both go meet the Eldest, though?"

Jhafir turns his head towards the eldest when she speaks, and his head rises in
realization and understanding, "The Blight -is- quiet." the word one of the
first inflections heard in an otherise monotonous voice. It doesn't make him
any more comfortable with the shadows in this city, though. He looks at those
nearest like they are a snake ready to strike when he turns to Tolson,
steadying himself, "Yes, please. I deeply wish to meet one."

Tolson gestures for Jhafir to precede him in the direction of Marith.

Marith turns her attention to Nita now that most of the other Ogier have
filtered out of the area behind Nontil and Erran, "Did the Madhi like the gift
of sung wood you had to give her?" She comments quietly, moving to sit on one
of the large Great Tree roots. There, she seems most comfortable and in her
element.

Nita's ears twitch briefly, a blush rising in her face. Her gift is yet new to
her. "Yes, Eldest. She honors me with her acceptance. I hope to see them return
to Stedding Maotai some day."

Jhafir follows alongside Tolson, jingling sporatically as he curtails his long
stride to remain aside the man.

Tolson approaches Marith with a smile evident on his face.

Nita seats herself as well, a respectful distance from the Eldest, back against
the tree and legs folded under her. She smiles, her eyes closing to be a mere
gap.

"I am certain the Tuatha'an will find their way back to the Stedding, now that
they know they are welcome Nita." Marith smiles lightly, sitting back against
the tree a bit. Her eyes turn toward Jhafir as the bells start to jingle in her
direction. She observes him in a curious fashion.

Garen walks north into Treebrother Boulevard, and quickly disappears into the
crowd.

Tolson reaches the location of the Eldest with Jhafir. "Eldest." He bows with a
smile. "I am Tolson."

Marith smiles at Tolson, her eyes brightening somewhat, "Your name sings in my
hears, Master Tolson. I am Marith, daughter of Paloa daughter of Altar, Eldest
of Stedding Maotai." This is generally where the Eldest welcomes someone into
the Stedding, and the effort of not saying that particular addage at the end
seems to strain upon her features, afterall... they are now in Tar Valon.

Tolson grins. "The Light shine on you, Eldest." He motions toward the Arafellin
Prince, "This is Jhafir."

Nita opens her eyes, looking to the men with a smile as well. "And I am Nita,
Daughter of Corian, daughter of Marena. Be..." She cuts off, blushing
furiously. "Your names sing in my ears." she says instead.

Jhafir bows lightly, showing greater respect for age and experience than he has
for others with title, 'Peace favor your sword," comes the automatic and
entirely inappropriate reply, He seems to recognize this and says what hes been
hearing throughout the evening, "Your name... rings in my ears?"

Jhafir strightens, then, a twinge of discomfort in his eyes as he does so.

Tolson smiles. "And the Light shine upon you, Nita." He bows to her as well.

Slowly the Eldest's eyes move to Jhafir. She regards him quietly for a few
moments then smiles slightly and adds a soft chuckle as the addage is messed up
a bit, "Your name sings in my ears, Jhafir." Marith comments, correcting the
saying slightly, "It warms my heart that you try to use one of our cutural
sayings, however."

Tolson smiles broadly to everyone. "I am pleased to have met so many new faces
this day. Unfortunately, I have other tasks to attend to. If you will all
excuse me."

Jhafir looks down at his boots and bells on their turned-down tops, as if
explaining to himself why 'rings' came to mind. He voice is very quite, dwarfed
by that of the Ogier, "I am pleased to meet you, Marith da.." he stops, unable
to recall, "Eldest." his head turns to Nita and he bows to her slightly as
well, mouth still unmarred by a hint of a smile. He goes to say something, and
stops as Tolson speaks, "Go in Peace, Tolson."

Marith bows her head gractionsly to Tolson, "Of course, Master Tolson." She
speaks before he has a chance to run off.

Tolson grins "The Light be with you, Eldest and Nita." He turns to Jhafir.
"Peace favor your sword, my lord." He bows once more and departs at a quick
pace.

Nita smiles to Tolson as well. "Peace be with you." she says with a nod.

Tolson walks north into Treebrother Boulevard, and quickly disappears into the
crowd.

"Simply calling me Marith, or Eldest is fine." The Eldest smiles lightly at
Jhafir, her ears twitching about silently. She pauses her words to wait for all
the farewells to stop, then allows Nita to greet Jhafir as well.

"Nita is fine by me, as well." says Nita quietly, still sounding much like a
man speaking loudly.

Jhafir seems rather awkward, socially as well as physically. "Your name sings
in my ears." he tries again, still unsure, his voice just loud enough not to be
difficult to hear, perhaps comfortably so for an Ogier. He shuffles a
soft-leather boot against the ground, sending another jingle into the air,
making as if he'd like to say something, but has not the courage, or will, to
ask.

Marith tilts her head to the side a bit, regarding Jhafir. She presses her lips
together a brief moment, then comments softly, "We do note bite, contrary to
what some humans believe. We are not Trollocs, nor are we related to them...."
She offers, in an attempt to break the ice.

Jhafir looks up at the word, his trepidation and sadness faltering slightly as
he explains, "Indeed you are. I've seen enough of Trollocs, Eldest." He frowns
in retrospect, "The Blight was my home, I am so far from home." he looks up,
making eye contact, "I am told the Ogier are not hasty people? That they will
judge a man for who he is, not..." he swallows deeply and wets his lips.
Opening his mouth again, he coughs heavily, producing a red kerchief from
inside his jacket and covering his mouth. He stops, finally, and wipes at his
lips to remove any blood that he might have coughed up.

Garen walks over from the direction of Treebrother Boulevard.

Marith sits on the root of a tree with her back to the base of the tree.

Garen bows greeting to those in the Grove.

Nita sits not far from Marith, back against the same tree and talking to Jhafir
and Marith.

Jhafir stands in front of Marith, in a fit of coughing when Garen arrives.

Garen looks at Jhafir with concern. "Are ye in need of assistance?

Concern touches Marith's eyes as Jhafir starts on his coughing fit. She makes
no attempt to hide that concern. "We are not, in general, a hasty people, no."
She affirms Jhafir's words, "We take our time in our decisions to make certain
everything is properly weighted. There are some, however, who do not fit that
mold and act in haste, but that is to be expected at times."

Garen picks up a mug and fills it with ale, then hands it to Jhafir.
"Here..this should help some. Excuse my forwardness, but ye looked to be in
distress.

Jhafir wipes at his mouth with a red kerchief and shakes his head without
looking at whomever spoke, bells ringing as he does so, "There is," cough
"Nothing that can be done for me." he looks at the man, then, and the mug, he
nods and mouths a silent thank you, taking the mug, and turns back to the
Eldest, and tries to remember what she just said.

A gleam of concern appears in Nita's eyes as well as she stands, halfway to
placing one great hand on the man's shoulder before pulling her hand back with
a shake of her head. This is not the Stedding, who knows how he might react.
She looks at the man, eyes seeking cause, or cure.

Marith watches quietly, that concern still expressed upon her features. She
smiles gently in Nita's direction and nods in approval as she moves back.

"If a man were a good man," Jhafir requests of Marith, "And fought the Dark
with every breath, never spoke an untruth, kept every secret given to him, and
aided those in need whenever he could, would the Ogier shun him because he was
born with blue eyes?" Jhafir's large Arafellin eyes are, indeed, not blue.

Marith gives Jhafir a quizzical look, "No... they would not." She answers with
a touch of honesty in her voice, "They would consider his past deeds and weigh
those heavier than his appearance."

Garen steps back to not seem rude, now that the man's coughing has subsided.

Nontil walks over from the direction of Treebrother Boulevard.

Nontil returns to the grove, followed by the ogier masons that he departed
with. The ogier spread out in the grove and Nontil approaches Marith and those
she is with.

Jhafir looks into the mug offered him and then takes a small drink. Lowering
it, he nods to Marith's words and opens his mouth, but snaps it shut at the
approach of another. He jingles a step back.

Nontil shakes his head sadly. "Eldest Marith, the damage is terrible. The
people have done their best to start reconstruction, but much has been lost and
wasted."

Marith nods to Garen, "Good evening..." She comments to the man, having caught
his entrance. She then turns her attention back to Jhafir, regarding him a few
moments before turning her attention to Nontil, "How bad is the damage?" She
inquires quietly, for an Ogier. Concern deeply marrs her features as her ears
wilt more fully against her head. It seems she's expecting the worst on the
report of the village.

Nontil's ears twitch as he speaks. "The road has been blocked completely and it
may take weeks to clear the dried lava.

Garen's eyes widen at the greeting of the Ogier. He offers a quick bow and
smile, then listens sadly as the other tells of the damage.

Nita's ears wilt visibly at Nontil's words. "What of the homes?" she asks.

A heavy sigh can be heard escaping from Marith's lips, "I will need to consult
the Elders that managed to come with us. I may need to send for more Ogier to
help with the rebuidling, and ask that they bring extra provisions. I wuold not
want the entire city to support us all." Her ears twitch back and forth, her
eyes taking on a saddened expression, "Nita is one person, but even with her
newfound treesinging ability we can't exactly make the ground fertile if the
lava covers it."

Nontil speaks with sorrow. "There is little left. And none that could be
reasonably salvaged. The humans have started to rebuild homes already, and
signs of life can be seen on the ground that has already been cleared."

Marith nods her head slowly, "I will see the damage myself. I've experience in
breaking ground and working with plants, as we all have, but my last project
was cleaning up after the fire in the glade." Her ears twitch back and forth
now, a sign that she's furiously thinking ways to help, "We could see if they
have tools here that could break through to the ground, or maybe request that
the Aes Sedai help in clearing away what they can... if they have not already."

Nontil says "The ground itself was choked by the soot in most places, and every
step sent up clouds of smoke."

Hellan walks north into Treebrother Boulevard, and quickly disappears into the
crowd.

Jhafir listens with curiosity, then speaks quietly, and makes no effort to be
sure he's heard, "Liquid fire outside the Blight?" he shakes his head sadly,
"Nothing grows where it has been. Not in the Blight, at least."

Sande walks over from the direction of Treebrother Boulevard.

Nontil cocks his head to the side and looks as if he is considering. "Aes Sedai
help? I had not considered that, but it would definently be a tremendous help."

Ears perk in Jhafir's direction, then the Eldest turns her eyes to the young
man, "There are volcanos in the Blight? Would you know best how to contribute
to the clean up efforts? I admit that we have not had such experience
ourselves."

Nita shakes her head sadly, ears drooping. "This is not the Blight, luckily.
Ash can be good nourishment for the ground, but the lava... I cannot work my
song on that."

Sande enters the grove and quickly finds a place off to the side to watch, eyes
alive with curiousity.

Jhafir's head shakes musically to Marith, "I don't know this word. But the
liquid fire seeps from the sides of some mountains, then it hardens and turns
to dust. Nothing grows where it once was, or it grows poisoned. We avoid it, we
don't clean it up."

Despite the conversation going on, Marith does catch the newcomer entering the
Grove. She smiles and nods in Sande's direction, then turns her full attention
to Nita and her conversation, "I agree... nothing good comes of hardened rock,
which is how it was explained to me." Her brows knit together as her ears
twitch some more, still furiously, as she thinks of other options. She leans
further back against the Great Tree on the root where she sits. She nods to
Nontil's words as well, then freezes at Jhafir's, "Light willing that it is not
poisoned in this case."

Nontil's ears twitch nervously as he listens to Jhafir.

Jhafir doesn't look confident, "I have never heard of liquid fire being seen
outside the Blight before, how can we know?"

Sande steps forwards shyly and gives a curtsy to the group in general, but the
ogier have her attention.

Nontil stiffens. "If the land is poisoned, then the town of Alindear would be
doomed."

Marith's ears appear to wilt even more, her expression turning more saddened.
She reaches behind her, placing a hand on one of the Great Trees as if it's
life alone supports her, "But we will try our best." She looks upward at the
tree, considering, "Perhaps we can take some saplings from some of the trees
here and use your talent to start their growth cycle early to make certain they
stay...." She considers, looking back at Nita as she speaks.

Jhafir turns to look at Nontil, resolute acceptance on his face, "Perhaps the
Dark One has made himself a new locale to work from." he looks over his
shoulder at the person Marith nodded towards.

Sande's eyes search the ogier for one who seems the most kindly disposed.

Garen shivers at Jhafir's words and looks back at the girl behind them.

Nontil's eyes darken. "The Dark One? I hope not sir. That would be terrible
indeed. I mean to see this place rebuilt, not withered away..."

Vanar walks over from the direction of Treebrother Boulevard.

Jhafir seems completely indisposed to any emotion besides the emotion that can
only be expressed properly with a heavy sigh. Upon seeing the girl, he raises a
hand, which sends a jingle of bells from his coat into the air, and becons her
over cautiously.

Nontil looks down at Sande, and some of the life seems to return to his
eyes."Hello there little one."

Nita nods slowly to Marith. "I shall make my utmost effort, Eldest." she says
quietly. Her ears twitch briefly.

Vanar walks in, looking around. When he doesnt find what hes looking for, he
turns around and leaves.

Vanar walks north into Treebrother Boulevard, and quickly disappears into the
crowd.

Sande tilts her head way back, uncomfortably so. A step backwards taken to make
it a little easier on her neck. She gives another curtsy. "Please excuse the
interruption. A question I have."

Nita looks briefly to Marith for approval to speak to Sande.

Marith gives Nita a thankful look, "Any help you can give would be appreciated.
I had hoped that Hondar would have joined us, but it seems he has other plans."
She smirks slightly, sighing once more, "Like help that the Dark One -not- be
involved." She comments more to herself than anything, then her attention moves
back to Sande, curiosity coming to her saddened features, ears still twitching
and wilted. "The blessing of the Light and stillness upon you." She greets
Sande, "You are welcome to ask your question young MIstress."

As the sun sets and the shadows lengthen, Jhafir suddenly moves to stand a few
feet away, in the sunlight. He watches Sande curiously, wanting to speak to
her.

Sande takes a breath and swallows. "I understand the ogier are more than
skilled in the working of stone?"

"Much of Tar Valon was done by Ogier hand, Mistress. Judge for yourself how
skilled the Ogier are with stonework." The Eldest responds, a curisous
expression reserved for Jhafir as he moves back.

Sande nods and gets up another light load of courage. "It is my impression to
be skilled with something one must understand it. The more skilled, the deeper
the understanding. Thats why I would ask this question."

Nontil raises an eyebrow couriously at Sande.

Jhafir's action was instinctive, so he has no idea what the curiosity was
towards. He continues looking between the Eldest and Sande.

Nita settles back against the tree again, looking at Sande with an expression
much matching Nontils; curiousity. Then her face lights up in recognition.

Sande frowns. "If you please, could you tell me this? In the north there are
these horror animals I am told. Hounds. When they sten on stone, they leave
footprints like a normal person on sand. Is this true? And if it is, how can
this be?"

Nontil's brow furrows and his expression darkens.

Sande is obviously and more than obvious very naieve and innocent.

Garen shivers at a memory from his travels, and slowly wanders away, passing
under the shadows of the trees, pulling his wooden flute out and starts playing
softly, chasing the memories away.

Nita's ears twitch madly at this mention of hounds leaving pawprints in stone.
"I have heard of such hounds, yes." she says, nodding to Sande. "They are
creatures of the Dark. Borderlanders call them Darkhounds."

"Old Grim," Jhafir says the word quietly. The veteran Blight Scout knows much
of the creatures, as any of teh Ogier resent should have realized from their
recent conversation with him.

Nontil finger's his chisels. "You'll not likely find a reason why they leave
such prints. They are creatures of the Dark One.

Sande nods slowly, staring up at Nita then Nontil. After shuffling her feet a
moment she goes on. "There are none more skilled in stone than the ogier. So it
seems to me, if these creatures do this, and the ogier do not understand how it
is done, it shed some light on the nature of these creatures."

Nontil nods gravely.

"Do you understand the One Power? How it can exist? Why certain things can be
done by it, and some not?" Nita shakes her head. "No, some things are hidden
even to those who would call themselves experts of their trade."

Sande takes a step back with much to think about. "There is the one power, and
there is the world about us. If a being which is a master of the world about us
in some manner, as the ogier with stone, cannot explain something, then it
logically must draw it's power from the other in some fashion."

Jhafir remains quiet as she speaks, offering no knowledge not asked for. His
head tinkles as each person speaks and he turns to listen quietly.

Sande may not have a great collection of marbles, but she seems to do the best
she can with whats at hand. All she can think of to foolow her little logical
leap is an innocent and slightly silly smile.

Nontil looks to Jhafir. "Perhaps you can tell us something of the Dark Hounds."

Marith nods her head slowly to Sande's response to her own words. However, her
brow narrows slightly as she regards the girl more closely at her next set of
questions, "I agree with Nontil's assestment, but this is not something I can
answer myself. I was not there when the Trolloc Wars ended, we only have our
histories."

Garen's music drifts from the shadows between the trees...somber and sad.

Sande turns her attention to Jhafir. It has not yet dawned on her he is
anything but a somebody.

Nita remains silent at Sande's next words, seeming to think long and well. Then
again, Ogier are known for giving things good thought before speaking.

Jhafir nods slwoly, "I could. I could speak of how they fight and how they run
and of how they kill and die, breath, and smell." his head shakes only
slightly, "But I can not answer your question. My lore of the way the Power
works is limited to.. what I've read." he looks around as the sun sets, and
speaks hastily, "All these shadows.."

Garen's music grows slightly louder as he reappears from amongst the trees.
Finishing the tune, he slips the flute back into his pouch and approaches the
group again.

Nontil's gaze wanders to Garen as he returns, then looks back to the jingling
borderman.

Marith turns her attention back to Jhafir, "We would escort you to your place
of dwelling should you feel unsafe..." Marith offers, "Ghildain is about
somehwere. He needs actual practice guarding -something- being member of the
Watch. The most excitement he's gotten is sending a man away from the Stedding
for carving a tree."

Sande glances about then works on something in her mind. Following her own
agenda, her own train of logic.

Again, Nita's ears twitch into a droop. Sadness, or disappointment perhaps.

Jhafir shakes his head lightly, "Nowhere in this city practices a shadow
watch." he says quietly before looking around casually, "And I am more
comfortable here than inside walls."

Tolson walks over from the direction of Treebrother Boulevard.

Tolson looks around a little surprised that there are still people here from
earlier.

Garen turns to Jhafir. "I would offer my services. I have
some...small..experience with such watching.

"As are we Ogier. It is too bad our ancestors did not add hovels here for us to
use when we came to visit the city." Marith ponders quietly, pressing her lips
together, "Or perhaps they did and they were merely taken out for the
buildings..." She furrows her brow in quiet contemplation.

Sande asks siftly, "Please, what is a shadow watch?"

Jhafir turns to Sande and explains, "A shadow watch is the practice of lighting
street lamps every thirty paces so that there are no shadows strong enough to
allow Myrddraal to ride the shadows into the city. It is done in ever city
where I am from, and in all Borderlands."

Marith rises and stretches a bit, "If you all will excuse me, the hour grows
late and I must be finding a bed still for the evening."

Nita blinks at this. "There are no places left shadowed in the Borderland
cities at night? This must be a hard task to accomplish." she asks incredously.

Sande blinks at she digests this, working her way back through her lessons.

Garen bows to Eldest Marith. "Safe journey to your bed, Eldest."

Marith nods her head respectfully to Garen, "Many things." With that she starts
to carefully and slowly make her way to the exit.

Nontil bows to all present as well. "Yes, I believe that I will turn down for
the evening also."

Jhafir steps back as Marith rises, then turns to Nita and tells her, "Life in
the Borderlands is not easy."

Sande surtsies to Marith. Then backing up curtsies again to the rest and makes
to leave.

Tolson sets himself down near a tree and produces a lute. He proceeds to tune
it.

Nita stands as well. "I will have to do the same too, but I wish to go see the
White Tower up close first, Eldest." She looks askance for permission.

"Go in peace," Jhafir calls quietly to the departing Eldest.

Sande slips off

Marith nods her head to Nita, smiling gently, "You are old enough to travel on
your own Nita, you need not my permission." She continues to walk out of the
Grove, making her way into the streets.

Sande walks north into Treebrother Boulevard, and quickly disappears into the
crowd.
