Building Bridges

EVENT: The Ogier hold their first reconstruction night in Tar Valon.
They repair Alindaer Bridge of the damage done by the Dragonmount Eruotion.
DATE: February 3, 1999
LOGGER: Marith

Alindaer Village: Alindaer, Tar Valon
The tidy little village of Alindaer seems be undergoing a rebirth. A great open
area has been cleared, and marking stones set out where the new Village Commons
will be. Several new buildings already ring that area, and the wooden skeletons
of several more are in progress. Large mounds of bricks and piles of lumber lay
at hand, and several large lorries are parked nearby. A large tent has been
erected, where the builders and masons can gather and plan and design.
The lights of Tar Valon can be seen twinkling on the river, just over the
bridge. Sprouts of green poke up through the flattened area, as fresh spring
winds off the river whip across the space. Tar Valon lies to the north, over
the bridge which now hangs over the wasteland, severed from its landing,
surrounded by scaffolds. The road that lead toward Andor can be seen as it
finally emerges from under the slagged lava, a few leagues away. The road is
impassable. The neighboring village of Darein can be reached via a smaller road
to the west.

Kus'kinn
Nita

Kus'kinn says "Sooooo..... Hi Nita, how are you?"
From afar, Nita ponders. What do i do with this Kus'kinn person?
You paged Nita with 'RP? He's an Ogier Stonemason'.

The Eldest comes walking along the area, along with at least ten other Ogier.
She appears to be in the center, speaking animatedly with a few. Meanwhile,
several other Ogier have already started organizing things and get involved
with the building efforts.

Nita starts slightly, turning to look at Kus'Kinn. "Oh. Good morn to you. I am
well...?" She leaves the statement much as a question of the other Ogier's
mane, no sign of recognition in her eyes.

Kus'kinn looks around and decides to go take a look at the bridge "Thank
you..... I am sorry my lady, I didnt get your name"

Ibiel moves lightly into the village from the northwest, the direction of
Darein.

Ibiel waves.

Kus'kinn bows to Ibiel, "Good Eve"

Ibiel looks up at the Ogier, somewhat incredulously

Kus'kinn says "My name is Kus'kinn, and I am happy to make your aquaint""

Marith continues to move along the path to get to the bridge, speaking to the
other ten Ogier with her. When she gets closer to Nita and Kus'kinn she smiles
and nods "The blessing of the Light and stillness upon you Nita, Kus'kinn."

Nita stands a bit into the chaos of the former village, looking dismally at the
surroundings. Her eyes droop at the sight, a slow shake to her head. She turns
towards the eldest, nodding respectfully, but no more for now. She is too
caught up in the destruction of the surroundings.

Kus'kinn wanders slowly towards the ruined bridge, huming a low melodic tune.

Davin comes striding into the area, a smug expression on his Ogier features. He
snorts slightly at something he notices, shaking his head from side to side.
Once he gets closer, the young Ogier barks out, "No... no! Don't put those
there..." To a group of Ogier picking through the stone pieces to be used to
replace the bridge.

Looking as though in deep concentration, Kus'kinn begins to pull loose stones
from a pile at the foot of a broken piling examining each stone one by one and
then setting it into a pile for later use.

Marith glances up as Davin starts barking at the other Ogier working on the
rebuilding efforst. Her ears twitch slightly, then she raises her voice, "You
know, Davin. This isn't the Stedding. If you are going to help, do so rather
than barking out the orders. THere's more than enough for you to do rather than
stand around and look smug." The Eldest seems to lay into the upstart
Stonemason.

Kus'kinn finds a borken stone buried deep in the ash and finding his hammer
begins to tap lightly upon it

The young Stonemason's ears appear to wilt against his head. He bows stiffly at
Marith, giving acurt nod, "As you say, Eldset." There is a look of challenge in
his eyes, however. It's almost as if he'd rather be somewhere else, exploring
or doing something -other- then rebuilding this bridge. He moves over to the
pile of stones he was yelling at others for and starts to pick through them, aiding where he can and helping to sort them properly.

Nita walks her way over towards the Eldest, stopping there and waiting for
acknowledgement.

Kus'kinn says "Your pardon Eldest Marith, but I will need assist removing this
very large block from the ash and there seems to be some sort of scroll work
upon it, could you take a look?"

A large, unusual bird, about the size of a hawk, with brilliant green plumage
and a large black beak. Long trailing tail-feathers hang for half a foot behind
him.

Marith turns her attention to Kus'kinn, nodding a bit. Gildain, the Ogier
Watchman that designated himself as Marith's 'bodyguard' for the trip breaks
away from the group of Ogier about the Eldest to go help with the largish stone
that Kus'kinn needs aid with.

Marith follows along behind Gildain, pressing her lips together a moment. Ears
flicker back and forth, "What sort of scroll work?" She inquires,.

Kus'kinn says "here Eldest, do you see these vines and leaves, they appear very
old and hard to see"

Pulling with all his might and with the help of Gildain, the stone is removed
from the ash so that Marith may have a better view

"It just appears to be scroll work done for the bridge... Decoration." Marith
answers as she gets a closer look. "I remember that they attempted to put some
of the plantlife into their work as well when creating the city the first
time." She smiles gently.

Nita follows after, curious to this scrollwork, but stays well back, relying on
good sight to see what it is.

All around other Ogier workers are starting to mix a plastering material which
will help put the stonework together and make it stay once it's all in place.

Looking at the Eldest with eyes full of respect, Kus'kinn smiles and bows and
returns to the rubble to continue his work

Marith glances at Nita, tilting her head a bit, "Do you think, while they are
doing the bridge, that we can look around and see what of the land we can
help?'

Kus'kinn pages: I've got to go home (I'm still at work) it will take about a
half hour, but ill be back

Davin finishes with sorting the stones, then goes over to where the plants of
wood are being held. He starts helping with a group of Ogier in getting the
supporting beams in place. Several of them grumble about the labor, some
obviously not stonemasons, however they do work together in working toward
their goal.

Looking up to Marith, your leave Eldest, "I must needs some of my tools from my
abode, may I leave for a bit?"

Kus'kinn says "twas I Eldest, I will be needing my chisles and another hammer,
perhaps a lever or two, my I be excused?"

Marith looks up from what she's looking over, turning her attention to
Kus'kinn. She smiles and nods, "Of course, Kus'kinn. You are old enough not to
need a hand held."

Looking a bit embarrased, Kus'kinn replys "Tis true that I be old e'nuff Eldest
but, I do need my stone tools, by your leave then?"

"Of course, Eldest." says Nita, turned offering a half-hearted smile with a
twitch to her ears. "The destruction.... It is grave." she says, looking to
where trees and grass should have been growing.

Kus'kinn quits the rubble pile and begins the trek slowly to the grove for his
tools, "I shall be back my friends" he smiles, waves then departs

"You have the leave, Kus'kinn." The Eldest seems to respond.

Kus'kinn says "my thanks to you........."

Marith nods her head a bit, ears twitching back and forth, "Indeed, the
destruction is worse than what I've expected." She answers the young
Treesinger, moving away from the workers fixing the bridge.

"I cannot work the song through this." says Nita, sounding disappointed and
disheartened. "It is stone, and much to thick." She looks towards where the
lava did not flow, but the grass and trees are still burned.

Nontil walks into the village from the northwest, the direction of Darein.

"Not even the places where there's ash?" Marith asks Nita, having moved off
from the rest of the builders to discuss other preparations for building with
Nita. Davin and others are preparing the supports for the bridge and getting
ready to add the stone braces.

Nontil moves toward Davin, ready to help with the adding of the supports.

Davin grunts at Nontil as he comes to help, hefting a stone on his shoulder.
"We're about ready to put the structure together."

"The ash, I can work on." says Nita, nodding. "It is good for nutrition, if
only it didn't cover everything." Her ears droop again.

Tehannah walks out onto the Village Commons from Cottage Me'lon, the door
closing behind her.

Nontil , Davin, and several other ogier heave a large support into an upright
position.

Marith nods her head a bit, "Do you think approaching the Tower, like we
discussed before, might help in breaking into the ground?"

Marith stands next to Nita away from the workers on the bridge, examing the
ground that was covered by the liquid fire.

Davin places his stone near the others, who take it up and start placing it on
the supports. He then starts to work his way back to the pile of stones,
grunting slightly, "Rather than doing this one at a time we should start an
assembly chain." Several of the Ogier working on this project grunt and nod as
well.

Nontil calls to several other ogier and have them begin to form a line for
hauling the stone.

Nita nods slowly. "Perhaps, Eldest. If nothing else, the ashes could be
removed. I have had some contact with the Tower. Do you wish me to ask to speak
to them of this?"

The ogier form an orderly line and begin to pass stones down to the supports.

Davin nods at the other Ogier, then starts to pass rocks down the line as well.
While the rocks start to get put into place on the bidge, several others start
to add the plastery substance that will make the stone stick into place
permanently.

Marith shakes her head at Nita, "No. This is a matter that I think needs to be
addressed to the Amyrlin herself."

Nadette walks out into the Village Commons from Nadette's House, closing the
door behind her.

Nadette walks down the path to the northwest, towards Darein.

Nita inclines her head in aquiescense. "Of course, Eldest Marith." Still, her
eyes drift dismally over the destruction. "There is so much to be done." she
says with a sigh.

Sande walks into the village from the northwest, the direction of Darein.

Marith nods her head in agreement with Nita, "I know, child, I know." The
Eldest's ears twitch back and forth in a worried manner, starting to wilt
against her head, "I only pray that we can do what others seem to be expecting
of us."

Davin glances over at the Eldest with her words, his own head tilting slightly.
He calls out in his Ogier smugness, "Oh... we'll get it done and them some on
top of that."

Nontil gives Davin a knowing look and smiles slightly, then continues heartily
on his work.

Nita nods once again, "I will go do what I can for now." she says to Marith,
making a question of it.

Marith appears to consider Nita's words, "For now, just concentrate on seeing
if we can get those sapplies..." She pauses, taking a stop back to regard the
other Ogier carefully, "You did start on that project, yes?" The Eldest
requires.

Nontil nods to Davin as he places another stone. "You work like an ogier. A
fine job."

Davin casts his own gaze back in Nontil's direction, a brow lifting slightly at
the other Stonemason. It takes him a few moments, then he seems to share in the
other man's knowing look. He grunts and smiles back. His tufted ears then
twitch at Nontil's words and he gazes down at his body, from large feet, to
large torso to large hands, "Last I checked, friend Nontil," He speaks with a
bit of amusement, "I was an Ogier." Several others about him chuckle lightly.

Nontil chuckles and continues on the bridge.

Maggae sashays into the village from the northwest, the direction of Darein.

Maggae watches proudly as the noble Ogiers work on the village.

Garen walks into the village from the northwest, the direction of Darein.

Garen smiles at Maggae and pats her hand on his arm again. "It is lucky I am
that I have you here...

The Eldest appears to be standing away from the rest of the workers, taking as
quietly as possible with the young and talented Treesinger Nita. Davin and
Nontil, and several other Ogier workers appear to be near the bridge, working
on placing the stones carefully into place and making certain they stay in
place permanently with some sort of sealer that won't come unglued - like a
cementing or plaster.

Tremos walks into the village from the northwest, the direction of Darein.

Nita hums slightly, surveying the scene. She mutters to Marith, "Where... me...
Eldest?"

You sense Nita hums slightly, surveying the scene. "Where would you like me to
begin, Eldest?"

Tremos arrives with Cronus, just behind Maggae and Garen. He surveys the scene
and whistles at the improvement from the last time he was here helping out.

Marith lifts a brow at Nita's question, "Did you work on the saplings first?"
She tries asking again, "Do you have any collected and ready to plant?"

Garen looks to Tremos. "Think they'd like some music soon to help them along?
"Some are ready, Eldest, but there are many to treat yet." says Nita, ears
twitching. "I would just like to se... some life grow here again." There is a
slight look of discomfort around her, in these surroundings.

Tremos shrugs, 'Sometimes it helps to get them into a nice working rhythm, but
last time I was here I had a bruised forearm for my thanks.'

Marith nods her head a bit, agreeing with the younger girl, "I think we should
wait until we find out whether or not those from the Tower can aid us a bit by
riding the ground of the rock."

Garen looks to Tremos. "Whom should we ask?

Tremos shrugs again, 'I am not sure of Ogier customs,' he turns to Maggae for
an answer.

Nita inclines her head to Marith. "Of course, Eldest. I will continue my work
on them."

Marith nods her head a bit, offering a comforting smile to Nita, "Remember not
to put a short handle on your axe." She speaks to the young woman, then turns
to observe the others, "Unfortunately, it is time for me to retire. It has been
a trying day arguing with Gildain."

Garen turns to Tremos. "Well, I did have the pleasure of meeting Eldest Marith
at the Ogier reception. SHould I ask her?

Tremos nods, 'An Eldest? Why, sure...'

Tolson walks into the village from the northwest, the direction of Darein.

Tolson enters the area quietly and looks around.

Garen says "Hail Tolson!""

Tremos turns towards whom Garen was addressing and waves.

Tolson smiles and nods to Garen and Tremos as he heads towards them.

Garen chuckles at the sight of the three together again.

Tremos smiles, 'Well, Tolson, just in time to entertain our builder friends.'

Tolson smiles. "Good. I would hate to miss out on the fun."

Cronus walks into the village from the northwest, the direction of Darein.

Cronus enters looking about, curious, as to everyone present and walks towards
Maggae Tremos and Garen

Evin comes out onto the Village Commons from Evin's Leather Goods.

Evin jumps in surprise at the large gathering.

Marith pauses on her way, glancing to Garen as she's approached, "Yes...?' She
murmurs quietly.

Marith apparently is on her way out of the rebuilding area and back to her
room, a look of tiredness touching the Eldests' features.

Garen says "I would be honored, Eldest, if we could play for your workers."

Tremos just looked at you.

Garen bows in respect.

Tremos turns and regards the Eldest as well, he flourishes a deep bow out of
admiration of these peace-loving creatures.

Evin bows to Marith. "The Light shine on you, Eldest."

Tolson stands near the two gleemen smiling quietly.

Cronus looks to the two...he is with...

Marith glances over at the rest of the Ogier fixing the bridge. She then smiles
at Garen, "I think they would like it very much if you played for them." With
that she takes her leave once more, leaving behidn the thirty or so Ogier
working to make the bridge safe for travel once more.
