At the time of her birth, the Tir was officially one year old (having closed its borders in May of the previous year) and relations with the rest of the world were shakey, at best. Ethran personally delivered the infant Helegitish into the care of Draey the Drow, a lieutenant of Seattle's Ancients go-gang. Realizing the impracticality of her name, Draey changed it to "Vixen" (playing on the she-fox part).
Vixen grew up immersed in the gang sub-culture, unaware of her noble origins. She learned how to shoot, fight, sneak, and hide (all the things a growing ganger needs). There she became an accomplished lookout and thief.
When she was nine, she was "adopted" by a wealthy, burned-out mage named, Julian Aramis, after an unsuccessful attempt to pick his pockets. He got her off of the streets and "established" an identity for her, as Victoria Aramis, complete with a servicable SIN account ("Vixen is a street name..."). He also began to instruct her in the arts arcane. Much to Julian's dismay, she often used these teachings to participate in runs with her former go-gang as a magical overwatch.

On one such outing with the Ancients, she ran afoul of an off-duty security mage. Fortunately, Julian had been searching for her, prior to the attack. He discovered (what was left of) her body and rushed it to Dr. Kristine Martin at Universal Omnitech. Julian's idea was to attempt to rebuild her body, using state-of-the-art biotechnology, without sacrificing her magical abilities.
Dr. Martin and her team, along with Julian and none other than Ignaz Yablonski, worked around the clock, using techniquies that had been, up to that point, merely theoretical. They succeeded in saving Vixen's life, but she was left comatose. One of Dr. Martin's associates, the Smiling Bandit, foresaw the oncoming wave of megacorporate espionage (or "heat"), before the results of the operation had been confirmed. And at his bequest they hired a street samruai named, Fenris (who had himself recently undergone elective bioware surgery at U.O.) to guard their patient against corporate intrusions.
