The Gecko MkIII Light Fighter*
New to the UBW naval forces, the Gecko Mark III fighter is still in experimental stages, and is currently being test-driven by Shannon "Catsbane" Traska (also the real life designer). This Ship should do for the UBW what the Arrow did for Confed, provide a quick, very survivable light fighter that is suited for a variety of different missions. This fighter, if approved by the New Technology committee, will become a staple ship to the UBW navy. Technical specs can be seen by the above link or here, as well as more information.
The BWS Intrepid Refit*:
The Intrepid, a very well known Carrier in the Border Worlds, may go through a refitting. during the time of the near-war between Confed and the Border Worlds, it was badly damaged, yet managed to be the ship to stop the war. Even withought a Bridge, Captain, and only half a crew, it managed to take on various campaigns and keep a Vesuvius Class Ship at bay for a while. Seeing what this ship has done, it has been suggested that it go through a refit, and given a new type of armor, stronger than conventional Capship armor, and shaped to make the ship look like an asteroid. This way, it will confuse ship scanners, and become invisible in an asteroid field if it is idle. It has not yet been decided if it would go through the refit, but it seems likely and partial schematics have already been drawn up.
Island Class Carrier
Due to the need for better ships for defense against forces who may want to take over the BW for their purposes (Confed, Kilrathi, Andorrean), The Border Worlds have almost completed construction of a new type of heavy carrier, the Island Class. When completed, it will be a force to be reconed with in the universe, and will re-establish the Border Worlds for the major force in the universe that they are. The original drawn up plans are now availible for all to see, and expect 3 dimensional plans some time in the future.
Direct Cloaking Energy:
Cloaking has always required the use of Crystals with short half lives to work. A new technique is being looked into for extending use time and crystal life. It would involve using the crystal as a transformer for energy, not as the only energy source, for Cloaking equipment. In theory, it would take energy from the weapons systems (which are useless when cloaked) and feed it into the cloaking device during a cloak. It would also take excess shield energy and put it in, thus allowing a near infinite cloak. The crystals would eventually wear down from use still. Instead of every day or two, though, it may be a few months, or mabe even a year or so before the crystals are rendered useless.
