AREA AGENCY ON AGING - Upper Shore Aging, Inc. is a private non-profit corporation which is designated as the Area Agency on Aging (AAA) to administer programs and services for Senior Citizens in Kent, Caroline and Talbot Counties. The AAA develops and coordinates services which enables older adults to maintain a satisfying and independent lifestyle. Programs are supported by volunteers, participant donations, private contributions; as well as Federal, State, Local Funds. Upper Shore Aging, Inc. is dedicated to a policy of non-discrimination on any basis including: race, color, marital status, sex, religion, disability, political belief or affiliation.

SENIOR CENTERS - Senior Centers provide a pleasant environment where older adults can socialize and participate in group activities: physical fitness, nutrition education, arts and crafts, holiday events, educational and informational services, fun and games.

MEALS - Nutritious noon-time congregate meals are served at all senior centers to persons 60 or older. A minimum donation of $1.50 is suggested. Home-delivered meals are provided to homebound adults 60 or older who are unable to prepare their own. Contributions are encouraged. 410-778-3562

 

USTAR - USTAR is a transportation system that provides service for the elderly, non-elderly, handicapped and general public. Services are available Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. A 72-hour advance notice is required. 410-778-5187

 

SHOPPING FOR SENIORS (SFS) - This program is available 3 days per week to citizens age 60 or older who are unable to shop for themselves. Staff shops for and delivers merchandise and/or groceries to participants. Shopping requests are taken over the telephone and payment for items is made upon delivery. Donations to offset delivery cost are requested. 410-778-2571

 

SENIOR I&A - Senior Information and Assistance provides information about services available to the elderly, application assistance, referrals to other agencies and follow-up contacts. 410-778-2564

 

SC - Senior Care is a coordinated system of community services for frail clients age 65 or older who need help with the activities of daily living. Staff from the department of Social Services, Health Department and Upper Shore Aging, Inc. provide assessment, case management and services. 410-778-2564

 

WEATHERIZATION - A program designed to conserve energy for income-eligible applicants of all ages --- Insulation, Replacement Windows and Doors, Minor Roof Repairs, Heater Wrap, Caulking, and Weather-stripping. 410-778-6000 or 410-758-6500

 

SENIOR LEGAL ASSISTANCE - This program is available on a limited basis to persons age 60+ with legal problems not involving litigation. Appointments to meet with the assigned attorney are made by contacting Kent County Senior Center at 410-778-2564

 

HOUSING - Operating Morgnec Village and Chesapeake Villa. Available to persons 62 years or older, income-eligible or handicapped. 410-758-6500

 

GUARDIANSHIP - Provides age 65+ frail elderly who have been determined (by medical evaluation and a court hearing) to be unable to make competent decisions on their own behalf and who have no relatives or friends willing to assume responsibility with a "guardian of the person" responsible for making decisions and arrangements for the client. The Judge appoints a "guardian of property", examines the client's situation as needed or semi-annually. 410-758-6500

 

SENIOR EXCHANGE - Monthly Senior Newsletter which provides information on benefits/services as well as coming events of interest to age 60+ residents. 410-758-6500

 

GROUP SENIOR ASSISTED HOUSING - USA, Inc. works with homeowners who are interested in certifying their homes for Group Senior Assisted housing for the frail elderly. A home may be certified to provide shelter, meals and services for 4 to 15 unrelated elderly adults. When funding is available, eligible residents may receive financial assistance (up to $550/Month) to subsidize the cost of living in Group Senior Assisted Housing. 410-758-6500

 

SENIOR HEALTHSCOPE - Federal Older Americans Act funds are used for disease prevention and health promotion activities. Senior HealthScope services include health screening, nutrition screening, physical fitness/group exercise programs and nutrition counseling and education. 410-758-6500

SENIOR HEALTH INSURANCE COUNSELING AND ADVOCACY PROGRAM - Senior HICAP offers one-on-one insurance counseling, information and group educational seminars on Medicare, Medigap insurance policies, private health insurance issues and long term care insurance. 410-758-6500

 

LONG TERM CARE OMBUDSMAN - The program investigates and resolves complaints made by or on behalf of residents of long term care facilities and works to protect the health, safety, welfare and rights of residents. 410-758-6500
