His love of people and zest for life are readily apparent in his artwork. Like Rockwell, his hero, Wright likes to tell a story through his paintings.
Over the years, George Wright has gained national recognition as one of the premier painters of America's baseball heroes. His rendering "Babe's Babes", commissioned by the Babe Ruth Museum, presently hangs in the Cooperstown Baseball Hall of Fame. Two of his more recent works include "The Splendid Splinter", a signed, numbered and autographed museum-quality lithograph of baseball legend Ted Williams, and "A Tradition of Excellence" which is now on display in the Baltimore Oriole Hall of Fame Museum.
Mr. Wright now adds to his works the legend of Vince Lombardi. Bringing the character and vitality of the coach to the canvas.
In 1991, that dream became a reality as Tom formed a non-profit organization on 7 1/2 acres of land on Maryland's beautiful Eastern Shore. Today, the Rookie League facilites consist of four baseball diamonds, a football field, and a small concession stand. Original plans called for a fully accessible gymnasium, but had not been funded. Proceeds from this lithograph will plant the seed to complete the gymnasium that the Rookie League so desperately needs.
Taylored towards younger youth, the Rookie League emphasizes the FUN of sports and displaying good sportsmanship. Currently, the Rookie League offers three baseball pitching machine seasons, one basketball season, and plans to add soccer this fall.
