To provide economic development to the local community through education
for the
improvement and existence of mankind.

Program objectives:
a. Improve adult/youth education
b. Bring the community together
c. Encourage employment
d. Provide information to the local community through workshop
e. Provide interface with government as specified in the article of
incorporation of the Pocomoke Self-Help Program, Inc. (Section 1.1)

Worcester County borders the Atlantic Ocean from Delaware to Virginia
on the
Delmarva Peninsula. The county covers 475 square miles, Berlin, Ocean
City,
Ocean Pines, Snow Hill and Pocomoke, Md. are the five townships. There
are
40,000 people in Worcester County and the average wage for entry-level
production workers is at $5.50 per hour according to the Worcester
County
Economic Development Office. Tourism is the basis for Worcester County
Economy;
the county population during summer months reaches more than 300,000
on weekend,
mostly concentrated in the resort town of Ocean City. The program is
in place in
Pocomoke City, Md. and when it becomes fully operational it will spread
throughout the county and neighboring Counties. The 1990 Census reported
that
Pocomoke' population is a little over 5,000. Worcester County's Initiative
To
Preserve families reported that females head 41% of all household in
Pocomoke
City, MD.

GOALS FOR 1998
Continue to seek funding opportunities for the restaurant, farming,
after school program, and computer operations. Seek to develop a working
community blue print to address the existing community
problems, identify the root causes, identify barriers to the problems
and bring
the community to understand past, present, and set a direction
for the future.
Expand network opportunities to other localities.
