Even More Radio From Downtown

Radio From Downtown Returns AGAIN !!

"It's (still) not that far from Art"

The RFD juggernaut rolls back into Easton and the historic Avalon Theater for another entertainment-packed performance of "Radio From Downtown" on Saturday, September 16th. The bimonthly music/variety program is a live radio taping and will be broadcast TWICE the following day, September 17th on WESM (91.3 FM) 4:00-6:00 PM, and WCEI (1460 AM) 7:00-9:00 PM. "I thought we outdid ourselves with the July show," says producer Van Williamson. "But I was wrong, wrong, wrong. The lineup for the September program is so exciting my blood pressure rises 30 points, or whatever they are, every time I think about it."

Williamson says they are forced to continue the programs because of generally sluggish activity in the RFD T-shirt market. "I was hoping to trade the leftover shirts for Frequent Flier miles, but the dull-witted airline company said it was not in their best interests. Consequently, (and against my better judgement), we will be back on stage in a few weeks, and, yes.. T-shirts will be for sale in the lobby..." the depressed entrepreneur commented in a statement from his office.

The upcoming show will feature Black Elvis, ("Must be heard to be believed"... Elvis Monthly), singer Karen Goldberg, and the tapdancing wunderkind Kelli Barron. Author Richard Ben Cramer, ("What It Takes -- the Way to the White House") will talk about his new/old book on Bob Dole, and reporter Joe Forsthoffer will recount his trip to the top of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. Actor David Foster will offer his portrayal of Baltimore journalist H.L.Mencken, and the house jazz band, Swing Shift, will provide musice before and during the radio performance. As usual, the Downtown Players will astonish the assembled with AN EVEN MORE DEVILISHLY CLEVER LIVE RADIO DRAMA (!!!!), this one recounting the nefarious loosing of a deadly virus on the unwitting Delmarva Peninsula by an embittered ex-general practitioner. The show will also feature the Flamingo Brothers, Phil and Ramone. (Thank God.)

The September 16th performance begins with a Swing Shift set at 7:30 PM, and the radio taping will get underway at precisely 8:00 PM, or thereabouts. Not to worry, the production is always under the steady hand of Van (The Man) Williamson, whose pleasant and charming exterior hides a virtual Simon Legree which is only revealed to the minions who slave in the radio production. "The buck stops here.", confides the Major Domo of the airwaves, "and I fully intend to keep it."

Tickets are (a mere) $10.00 for adults, children under 12 will be admitted free if accompanied by an adult, and if both the adult and the child promise to behave themselves.

Some tickets may still be obtained at the door prior to the performance, but as the fame of these remarkably clever radio programs grows, the most prudent course is to obtain reservations by calling The Avalon Theater at (410)-822-0345.

The theater is located in downtown Easton, MD, at 40 East Dover Street, across from the Tidewater Inn. (You will know the place.. it's where all the laughter is coming from.)
