Just Because I'm a Twin
by Sarah Campbell Fine

Just because I'm a twin
I am not her.
I am not my twin.
I do not act like her or
want to be like her.
Don't treat us like we are one person.
I am me, my own person, myself.

Just because I'm a twin
do not call me by her name.
I am not SarahLynn. I am me.
If you call me by my twin's
name, I will not answer.
I will ignore you.

Just because I'm a twin
do not stereotype me.
I do not dress like my twin.
We are two different people
with different interests, abilities
and personalities.
I am an individual.

Just because I'm a twin
it does not mean we are the same.
We are two people, trapped with the same looks,
portrayed to have the same identity.

Just because I'm a twin don't compare me to her.
Don't tell me my twin is better than
me in any way just to hurt me.
We are both equals.
When we walk past you
We are not The Twins.
We are Sarah and Lynn.
Two separate people.
Let me be my own person.
Let me be me.
Just because I'm a twin.
