The Shore Journal
Anatomy of an Alternative Publication

First Issue: 04/07/95

Our Purpose:

Ever since it happened that we misspelled a word at midnite on the Atlantic Coast of North America and were corrected by a friend in Japan a few minutes later, we knew that American mass-media (that old drunken fool) was utterly and completely done-for, and that we would could help shoot its nobby old knees right out from under it.

And oh, we were glad at heart !

We're journalists by trade, which means that we have been whored, tortured and abused by advertising companies who pretend to be news organizations for a total of over one hundred years, between all of us and we are all taking careful aim, and firing as often as possible.

How do you know we're journalists and not shysters like the rest of them ? Well, the most obvious thing we can tell you that should make any sense...
we don't sell cars !!

We do sell ideas, though, and a lot of them. We try to sell you on independence, self-determination, the common good, understanding, acceptance, care for the weak and the aged, humanity, decency, and any number of other concepts which rarely reach public discussion these days.

We also do selectively endorse specific consumer products and services, and that's how we pay the bills, or some of them, anyway.

We only promote products we know from people we know. If we don't eat it, drink it, smoke it or wear it ourselves, we don't sell it, period.

How we do The Shore Journal

The web-server equipment is owned and operated by an independent internet provider, ICNet, and is located in Salisbury, Maryland, USA. ICNet provides dialup access, ISDN, and other internet-related services to a three-state region consisting of portions of Delaware, Maryland, and the Eastern Shore of Virgina.

Space for this publication is provided free of charge to the Journal by the owners of ICNet, Richard Mitchell, John Ward and Marta Ward.

In so doing, they promote the free press and the freedom of speech for all citizens of the world. In return, we try not to cause them too much trouble with their commerical clients, (which we occasionally do.)

Production is coordinated (after a fashion) via email, although occasional editorial meetings are held in the palatial offices of the now-famous SJ Tower Plaza overlooking the beautiful Wicomico River.

If you would like to contribute:

Submissions are welcome via email at any time. If you'd like to write, but aren't sure about what, write us and we'll give you an assignment, and then hound you to death until you complete it.

All articles remain online except at the request of the author, although the editors reserve the right to include or to exclude articles without notice.

The Journal Archives, which index all previous issues, are kept as current as possible but sometimes fall behind due to laziness. A search utility is provided.
