We're So Warped...
One of the networks is advertising 'the REAL story" behind Ruby Ridge. Let's GET real. What a tragedy of miscommunication that was. But that's the stuff those in the "business of communication" thrive on. It's good for May sweeps.

Meanwhile, the Freemen made their own little TV special to deliver their philosophy to the government they don't believe in. Loved the guy in the big black cowboy hat...is that a Freeman-fashion statement?

Book Bombs
This IS warped...although we should have known following the OJ Simpson tell-all book-a-thon. Warner Books has already shipped out the first paperbacks on the Unabomber case for morbid minded Americans who want to be titilated by the workings of a sick mind. The book is titled "Mad Genius: The Odyssey, Pursuit and Capture of the Unanbomber Suspect."

Gee...what if Theo isn't really the guy?

May Amour
As if it wasn't spring and the month of May to begin with...but all this week we get a special dose of Venus's magic.
Hang on! It could be a wild ride. The planet named for the Goddess of Love won't be this close to Earth for another 100 years and it is truly brilliant. You can even see its cresent shape with the naked eye. Look to the NW, fairly low in the sky. It's a celestial event.

Good Vibrations
A new NASA spacecraft has detected the fastest vibrations yet seen in the universe: X-rays from neutron stars that flicker as much as 1,130 times per second.

Okay. That's impressive. But do you ever ask yourself what does that MEAN? Does this have to do with the secret of life? It's amazing enough to realize there are brilliant people who actually look for this type of thing and know what to do with that knowledge. It just means more magic to me.

SHOCKED !
What's barbaric enough? The government has asked an immigration appeals board to set a standard that would grant asylum to women facing genital mutilation ONLY in extreme cases that "shock the conscience."

Let's see. The entire concept seems extreme to me. Being held down against one's will to have your genitals cut with unsterilized razor blades or broken glass, without anesthesia, isn't shocking enough? Good luck to the appeals board trying to set up unshockable standards on that one.

I Get No Respect
Pat Buchanan is getting fired up for the Republican convention, vowing to fight to keep the party's anti-abortion stance in the platform. What an old tired issue that is. And something about 'respecting the sancity of life' just doesn't ring true when you see the welform reforms introduced by the Republicans in Congress. How about respecting the sancity of the lives of children born in this country who are too poor to eat properly, receive adequate health care or education?

Buchanan asked fellow Republicans to take him and his followers seriously! Right. Maybe we can do that after he builds that great wall around Mexico.

Vanishing Breed
Over 60 rescue workers have scoured the woods and waters near the place where former CIA director William Colby's canoe was found swamped last Sunday. Dogs, sonar and divers have failed to find a trace of Colby. Huge surprise there. Call me cynical, but when the former director of the CIA leaves a half-eaten dinner to go out canoeing in rough waters and is never seen again...what do YOU think? I'm thinking we might find him right after we find Jimmy Hoffa.
