The Oldest WHAT ??? ------------------

Those who read our little weekly on a regular basis will recall that a few weeks ago we asked you to make a phone call. Many of you did, and we thank you for that.
We asked you to call our local newspaper, The Daily Times, and voice your support for The Shore Journal. We weren't in danger of being shut down by the courts (our kingdom for such importance), there was a reader's poll of favorite websites, and we thought it would be great to be listed.
We were listed, although not in the manner that we had hoped. We even got a call from the reporter, Susan Canfora, who asked us what, exactly, IS The Shore Journal ?
That is where we got into trouble. We should have referred her to Meshach, but he doesn't say much to strangers.
We have the greatest respect for people who can keep their wits during an interview, and we have never counted ourselves in their number.
In fact, we so botched our answers that she ended up thinking we had called The Shore Journal "... the oldest and most widely-read publication on Delmarva." Good Lord.
We're not even the oldest web publication. Larry Mott's Trailblazer has been up longer than the Journal, and we would not have wanted to slight him.
All of this caused, of course, yet another emergency meeting of the Shore Journal Editorial Staff, once again at the palatial SJ Tower building.
After much discussion, and a small food-fight over in the corner between members of the Far East Bureau, it was decided that while WE knew it was an error, it was too good an error to pass up, and the board voted unanimously to accept the accolade and to henceforth refer to our little enterprise as:

"The Oldest and Most Widely-Read Publication on Delmarva"
The Daily Times, March 22, 1996

Our marketing department is working feverishly to develop a media campaign around this error, and we expect to see results very soon. We even have a call in to Kathi Lee Gifford, we want to milk this puppy for everything it's worth.

Senator Joe McCarthy would be proud.
