Put on the spot recently, to describe in a few
words what political position we held, we could
only respond, "feminist."
This was met with a quizzical look, and our
honesty was put to question. Fortunately,
there were no pistols available for dueling, and we
were able to convince the person we were talking to
that we were, indeed, serious.
William F. Buckley once said "I grew up in a family
with sisters, and learned early on the natural
superiority of women." We had a similar good fortune,
and it has served us well in life.
Women really ARE smarter than men.
As evidence, we note that there are
no female professional football teams.
There are women in professional football,
but while the men are out on the field
getting their heads bashed in, the women
are on the sidelines, looking awesome.
Comparing the two efforts as exhibitionists
looking for public display, the cheerleaders
clearly have figured out that one can get
the exposure one desires without getting
hit by the human equivalent of a freight
train.
Women in sports are more individual, and
less team-oriented in general, except at
the collegiate level. There's something
more sporting about that, anyway. A team
is a man's thing. Competition, however,
is something known to both genders.
Another area where women have taken
over completely is music, and we're very
glad they did. Artists like Madonna,
Annie Lennox, Alanis Morisette, TLC
![]() and Natalie Merchant have brought joy and hope back into popular music, leaving male artists to be ponderous. The contrast between them is startling. Look at any of the current releases from these women, and look at the guy's stuff by comparison. It's embarrassing.
Healing was once the exlusive domain of women,
and we have no doubt they did a much better
job of it than the golf-playing, mercedes-driving
physicians of today. It wasn't until men created
one of the great Catch-22's of all time, (i.e.:
1. Physicians must attend Medical School. 2. Only
men can attend Medical School. 3. Only men can
be physicians. Neat, eh ?)
that they
effectively excluded women from the business of
healing. All one need do is to go into any
hospital today, and see who's doing the healing,
and who's doing the stealing.
In education, the most ridiculous notions have
been created by men, and the profession with
the darkest past of all, Psychiatry, is so soiled
by the legacy of Sigmund Freud that we wonder that
anyone, man or woman, could have any intellectual
honesty and call themselves a shrink. Egads.
But there are men, and some women too, who doubt
the need for things like Women's History Month. They
think everything's just fine, we suppose, with history
as it has been told. Maybe that's because they star
in it. Everyone likes a story that makes them look
good.
