It's exciting to think that Al is thinking about the "new crop" of jazz musicians at the formative high-school age ! Unlike the wonderful numbers of colleges and universities teaching jazz by the "Jazz Masters", this offering to young jazz musicians is UNIQUE !
All time great jazz trombonist Al Grey is gathering his master musician friends to join the camp faculty to conduct seminars on improvisation, theory, rehersal and performance.

SEMINAR SCHEDULE

Monday, June 24th - 9:30 A.M. Pottstown High School Auditorium


Al Grey and Camp Director Chuck Dressler will give orientation greeting and open with Al, Chuck and staff setting up students with instructors and begin "big band" orientation and rehersal.
After lunch, return to auditorium for Artistry in Drumming presentation by legendary drummer Max Roach. The regular daily schedule of jazz masters' seminars, small improvization combo groups and "Big Band" rehersal with the jazz stars.

Tuesday thru Saturday, June 25-29, 1996


Al Grey, Chuck Dressler and staff will repeat Monday's schedule at the Bandstand in the Auditorium. After lunch on Tuesday, Dr. Billy Taylor will open at the grand piano and give a presentation the students will long remember. The daily afternoon schedule will conclude at 4:30 P.M.
After lunch each day, Wednesday through Saturday, a jazz master will open the session in the auditorium followed by the regular afternoon schedule. The repertoire will range from standard to contemporary music... Blues, Bebop, History, Soloing Technique, Rythm Section Accompaniment, and "All That Jazz".

Applications are being accepted from young students between the ages of 13 and 20 who know their instruments and are yearning to learn more about jazz. Al Grey's Jazz Camp is a day camp 9:30 to 4:30 daily, June 24th - 29th. Cost per student is $200.00 which covers all instruction, clinics, performances and lunch for six days.
Staff: Camp Director Chuck Dressler is the Director of Bands at Pottstown High School and he will be assisted by three members of the Pottstown Music Faculty. Besides being a dedicated music educator, (his jazz program at Pottstown is considered outstanding), he is a professional trombonist and has appeared with many well-known artists, like The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, Buddy DeFranco, and Manhattan Transfer.

GRAND FINALE

The Al Grey Jazz Jam Concert will climax this week-long adventure into the jazz world. The students will show what they learned in the "Big Band" and will be sharing the stage with Al Grey and his friends. The date: Saturday, June 24th, 7:30 P.M. Al GREY'S JAZZ CAMP PRE-REGISTRATION

Application and Fees: Because enrollment is limited, it is important to apply in advance. Pre-registration forms should be submitted as soon as possible with a non-refundable registration fee of $25.00. A complete registration packet will be sent to you upon reciept of the registration fee. The balance of the camp fee will be due by June 1st, 1996.
