Data Processing is a one year microcomputer-based course available to 11th and 12th grade students with preference given to students in their Senior year. The course offers hands-on training for positions in business careers. Students receive training and gain experience in computer applications including operating systems (DOS and Windows), data entry procedures and operations, word processing, electronic spreadsheet applications, database management techniques, and desktop publishing. In addition, students are introduced to computer programming using the QuickBasic and Visual Basic for Windows programming languages. Students may be eligible for placement with a local employer during the second semester. The course includes both classroom and computer lab activities and requires homework. Participation in the Vocational Industrial Clubs of America (VICA) is encouraged.
To become a Data Processing completer, students must earn a credit in Work Place Skills, a course available at the home schools. Students completing Data Processing may receive advanced standing and up to 7 credits at Wor-Wic Community College in Computer or related majors.
