MARINE CORPS RETIRED OFFICER'S ASSOCIATION (MCROA) AWARD
SELECTION PROCESS
Annually, the District Commanding officer will recognize the top MCJROTC unit in
the district. Members of a formal board will choose the best program using the
following weighted criteria:
* ANNUAL INSPECTION: Subjectively measures the Cadet grasp of the
inspection process. The four indicators of leadership; morale, proficiency, espirit de
corps and discipline; are measured and documented (weighted 40%). The Snow
Hill MCJROTC was judged outstanding in all categories.
* CADET CITIZENSHIP: Measures Cadet Involvement in the school
community (weighted 14%). Snow Hill MCJROTC:
- 3 Cadets on the Student Council (President, Vice President and
Secretary)
- 5 Cadets in the Student Government (Freshmen Class Parliamen-
tarian, Sophomore Class President and Historian, Junior Class secreray and
Historian)
- 1 Cadet 1st Vice President of the Southern Eastern Shore Associa-
tion of Student Councils
- 1 Cadet Maryland Eastern Shore Representitive to the National
Association of Student Councils
- 2 Cadets on the School Improvement Advisory Committee
- 1 Cadet Secretary of the National Honer Society
- 3 Cadets Delegates to Maryland Boy's State
- 3 Cadets on the 2000 Prom Committee
- Cadets held 102 membership positions in school clubs (Note: Many
Cadets were active in more than one club)
- Cadets provided 71 varsity and junior varsity athletes in support of
the school's sports program (Note: Many Cadets participated in more than one
sport)
* COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS: Measures the unit's involvement in the
community (weighted 13%): The Snow Hill MCJROTC provided 1,449 hours of
community service.
* SCHOLASTIC ACHIEVMENT: Measures student dedication and
instructor involvement in the academic/scholarship process (weighted 12%). Snow
Hill MCJROTC:
- 3 Cadets were members of the National honor Society
- 22 Cadets were We-XL members, including 4 on the Distinguished
Honor Roll
- 4 graduating Cadets received a total of $292,000 in college
scholarships
FIELD TRAINING: Measures instructor dedication tp partical application
(weighted 11%). The Snow Hill MCJROTC participated in 7 field training
events.
COMPETITIVE EVENTS: Measures unit involvement in local, regional or national
competition (weighted 8%). The Snow Hill MCJROTC:
* Entered 24 Drill Team competitive events with 13 1st place, 8 2nd place
and 3 3rd place finishes.
* Entered 9 Rifle Team competitive events with 5 1st place, 2nd place and
1 3rd place finishes.
* Won the Worcester County JROTC Field Meet.
ADMINISTRATIVE COMPETENCE: Subjectively measures instructor ability to
work within published guidlines for fiscal, supply and administrative process
(weighted 2%).
PUBLIC AFFAIRS: Measures unit involvment in the community in non-
community service type activities (unweighted tie-breaker). The Snow Hill
MCJROTC:
* Provided 29 Color Guards
* Participated in 3 parades
* Laid a wreath at the National Tomb of the Unknown Soldier on behalf of
the community of Snow Hill
* Conducted:
- A formal ceremony for the presentation of the Navel Honor School
Plaque to Snow Hill High School Principal
- Traditional Marine Corps Birthday Ceremony
- Annual Court House Run
- Annual MCJROTC Awards and Appreciation Banquet
Reeiving this award identifies the Snow Hill Marine Corps JROTC as the top
MCJROTC unti in the 4th Marine Corps District for SY 99 - 00. The 4th Marine
Corps District covers a six state area with 40 MCJROTC units.
There are six Marine Corps Districts, therefore only 6 schools out of 210 nation
wide receive the MCROA Award.
