CARES is a social cognitive support program developed for Children At Risk Educationally and Socially. It is an ongoing, comprehensive, multi-faceted self referral program designed to support services to youths at risk. The goal is to assist students at the middle school level who are at risk of dropping out or becoming involved in personally debilitating behavior. These students have difficulty with problems that conflict with their abilities to adjust satisfactorily to their home, community or school environment.

Self regulation of behavior is the goal for each student participating in the CARES program. By participating in various activities such as individual conferencing, educational team meetings, and small group activities, students are learning new skills for improved self regulation of behavior. Community resources are coordinated as needed for prevention and intervention to assist the student in their development.
