The 1997 Nanticoke River Canoe & Kayak Classic
will be held April 26th.
This 8-mile race, hosted by Survival products, runs from Mardela, MD to
Vienna, MD and is fun for beginner and experienced paddlers alike. While
experienced paddlers enjoy the complexity of the course, less competitive
people come out to cruise through the three distinct ecosystems on this
course: a wooded freshwater wetland, a salt marsh, and a broad brackish
river.
The finish line across the mighty Nanticoke in Vienna is also the site of the Shad Festival, where race spectators can experience local heritage while cheering their favorite racers to the finish.
This race is the kickoff to the Triple Crown Paddlers Classic on Delmarva, with seventeen classes for entrants in three races.
There will be t-chirts for all participants, with awards for the first three finishers in each class. There will also be a raffle open to everyone. The awards ceremony will be held at the Nanticoke Inn in Vienna, where food and drink will be available.
The event will be capped by the Delmarva Paddlesports Expo on April 27th, which features free test paddles for dozens of canoes and kayaks from top manufacturers. For more information on any of these events, call Survival Products at 410-543-1244.
The early entry fee is $10 per paddler. Entry form envelope must be postmarked no later than Friday, April 18, 1997. The late entry fee for all registration forms received between May 19 - 26, 1997 is $15 per paddler.
